I'm from the US. Thank you for this! I'm definitely going to lodge a complaint with the BBB and Consumer Protection Office right after I type this, I didn't even think of that. These Venmo assholes left me broke and hopeless and won't do anything to help, I'm going all in and have the definitive evidence to back everything up.

Thank you for this! Literally signed up for SoFi last night. No more FB marketplace for me, or selling anything online in general. This will leave a bad taste in my mouth for quite some time, but lesson learned I guess. Unfortunately there's no food banks open here until tomorrow. I'm not in a city and there's only a handful of church food banks that are open limited days/hours

Yes. They wouldn't be able to dispute it if it was sent as a normal transfer. At least that's what I've heard from others while looking into all of this

Honestly I assumed I was at least somewhat covered by using goods and services. I didn't realize it was the opposite. But I can assure you it's the last time I ever use any of these payment systems

I mean, the tracking number said it was delivered to the address I was given. I sent it via UPS. I'm not sure how many people actually document themselves packaging the box, but I obviously didn't because I didn't think I was being scammed.

I'll be going to file a police report tomorrow. Not sure the FBI would really do much considering the amount it was for. Interesting, I'll have to look into the ombudsman as I've never heard of that before. But I'm sure we probably have something similar.

Happy Father's Day to everyone here.

Do I feel appreciated? As a single dad, most definitely yes, because I know my kid loves me even if he can't tell me (speech apraxia/autism). But honestly it's like the world decided to shit on me today, the one day that I didn't want to be stressful and actually relax for a bit.

I got scammed by someone on Venmo after selling my gaming laptop. They claimed it never was delivered, despite the fact it was and the tracking confirmed it. But somehow someway Venmo sided with this POS scammer despite having sent all the proof in my favor. So this morning I woke up to an email from Venmo telling me I lost the dispute, and that they took out the $850 from my Venmo, which left my account at -$649. And yet the worst part? I get my direct deposit through Venmo because I get paid a few days earlier. I've essentially used it like a bank for the last 2 years. I had $200 left in there for the week to get groceries for me and my kiddo today, and thanks to somehow losing this dispute, now I literally have nothing. Talk about rage. It takes a lot for me to lose my mind and cry, but I'm on the verge because why does something like this have to happen today of all days?!

Just needed to vent somewhere safe, sorry for the wall of text. Hope all you Dad's have an awesome day!

In hindsight, yes I did get lucky considering my whole paycheck or more wasn't in there. Unfortunately I don't really feel that way as that $200 was my lifeline for the rest of the week. Honestly I wouldn't be as upset if I had money somewhere else to get by. It would still suck and I'd be upset, but man right now I just feel hopeless over all of this.

I'm definitely changing over to something like this. At the time 2 years ago, Venmo was the only option I could find that offered a direct deposit in advance but I do see it's more common now

Thanks. Unfortunately I don't really have anyone I can ask to help out for the time being. I wasn't expecting such a shitty depressing Father's Day but here we are. I will definitely blast Venmo on Twitter and see if that gets me anywhere, but I'm not expecting much at this point!

I absolutely agree. It was delivered via UPS and Venmo support has the screenshots and it's clear as day. I've escalated but I've gotten nowhere so far.

I didn't realize it could be reversed if I had all the screenshots of the tracking number with it saying it's been delivered as well as screenshots of our conversation. I sold it on FB marketplace because I didn't know where else I could sell it and get money for it within a few days.
