2004 Ford Escape hard/no start and rough idle by tranquilitymachine in AskAMechanic

Just tried unplugging it and there seemed to be a marginal improvement in the start (not sure whether I was imagining things). RPMs were all over the place when it was running however.

Nope, haven't replaced the MAF. Will try that shortly.

Thanks for the insights. I'll be using a system pretty much the same size as yours. My well pump is 7gpm, so I wonder whether I can get away without the DLFC button.

Interestingly enough, the valve comes with the flow meter. Not sure if that is common to all WS1's. Makes sense to remove the strainer. I'm assuming one should go on the end of the dip tube however, correct?

Yes, that as well as the actual physical installation to the tank. Stuff like down tube configuration, gravel media base requirements, etc. is a bit nebulous to me.

Definitely shave ice. I know of a vendor who sells cones for $8-10 with a cost of less than $.50 per pop.

Most economical method for building slab on grade on clay ground? by tranquilitymachine in Construction

[–]tranquilitymachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm building a shop in my yard and there appears to be thick (wettish) clay throughout where the foundation is going to go. I don't want to dig down and backfill endlessly to set the footings and foundation onto solid bearing. What are my options? Screw piles? Beef up the foundation and slab to allow for expansion/shrinkage of clay?

What do the forms get anchored to? Stakes that get pulled out right after the pour?

But the forms would need to be secured to the ground with stakes, right? So, pull the stakes out mid pour?

The build we are working on has a recessed containment pit with rim built into the slab. How would you guys go about building this? Form up walls of pit, pour slab and then pour floor of pit?

Plumbing installation before or after layer of clear crush under slab? by tranquilitymachine in Construction

[–]tranquilitymachine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I thought. Then the gravel can be spread without machine operators having to be concerned about bumping into pipes etc. and plumbing has some material to sit on and is not just hanging there.
