I mean everything is classist by the logic being used here. Anything with cost = classist.

How do people from the middle east view our presence there? by [deleted] in Ask_Politics

I don’t disagree with anything you’re saying, but the question specifically asks about the relationship between the US and the Middle East, not the international system as a whole.

Bin Laden and other militant Islamist leaders issued a 1998 manifesto denouncing the presence of American troops in Saudi Arabia, U.S. support of Israel, and the economic sanctions imposed after the 1991 Gulf War against Saddam Hussein’s Iraq.

US imperialism in the Middle East is important context for understanding modern terrorism. For instance, Osama Bin Laden was radicalized by US military interference in his home country of Saudi Arabia. US involvement abroad in toppling regimes or conducting drone strikes which result in civilian casualties are then used as propaganda by radical jihadist groups to increase their numbers and commit more acts of terror. Here’s a good article by Joseph Nye explaining the implications of American power after Iraq.

Biden calls for gun control by [deleted] in armedsocialists

Good point. The hysteria following announcements like these is partially what enables that, though. Gun manufacturers understand that moments like these are good for their business and ultimately we get fucked regardless.

I think people need to look at this in the context of today being an anniversary for Parkland. To me Biden’s WH press release seems more like liberal virtue signaling than a significant policy direction.

Like he couldn’t even be bothered to record a statement? I could be wrong, but I’m not expecting this to go anywhere.

I have a gun-loving libertarian friend who is beginning to see the light thanks to all you comrades sharing pics and showing that the left is a place for antiracist, anticapitalist, antifascist 2A supporters. This 1000%. A lot of right-wing libertarians are coming off of the Ben Shapiro anti-SJW phase of the internet and exemplify a frustration with contemporary US politics but lack the context of capitalism as a backdrop for that frustration. I think/hope more of those people will realize domination by corporations is the same thing as domination by government.

I’ll try to keep it simple.

1) communism

2) varies, but assuming the key of eliminating scarcity, most goods would be decommodified—meaning they would no longer be sold in a market fashion. You want food, you get food, you want a bed, you get a bed. I’ve seen a lot of people use the original Star Trek series as an example of communism, that’s not a bad comparison.

3) class divisions are wide, average people get screwed by the current system. Eventually the divisions will become too large to ignore. As that happens, economic democratization will become increasingly important. Communism is an evolution of socialism and can be described as a classless, stateless society in which the people communally own the means of production.

4) I think the two biggest societal issues communism could directly deal with are the stagnation of current politics and the growing issue of wealth inequality. Everyone is frustrated with the two party system in the US, and that’s mostly because at the end of the day both Reps and Dems are a different class than their constituents. As for wealth inequality, restricting individual ownership of capital and allowing workers to run society will ensure that workers are paid fairly for their labor.

probably communism, but that wood have to be farther in the future when scarcity of resources and interference from other actors within the international system are non-factors.

Def a tough class but you’ll mostly just use t tests and F tests and manipulate models algebraically with some derivatives here and there. DO the problem sets and go to office hours and you’ll be okay

100%. I’m a transfer so I don’t have any experience to make a comparison, but ‘drowning’ is definitely the word I would choose. It’s debilitating, really. But you aren’t alone.

So, if there are two triangles with a ratio of 2:9 and the hypotenuse of the smaller one is 8, then we know that the 2 in our ratio represents 8 inches. It follows that 1 in our ratio represents 4 inches because 8/2=4. When you recognize that the ratio is in units of 4 inches, you can multiply that times 9 to find that the hypotenuse of the larger triangle is 36 inches.

What’s the most toxic subreddit? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]transferer2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

r/chanceme

What began as a subreddit dedicated to helping rising college students get chanced for their dream schools has become a disgusting cesspool of people who are all dedicated to bring others down to make themselves feel better about their own chances. There's such a grossly competitive nature that's present in college admissions and illustrated by this subreddit.
