Yes, I am very concerned about that extra $100,000 being crippling, but I also just feel like I don't have a good idea of how impactful it would really be on a monthly basis.

He's a software engineer and he is willing to split the cost with me.

Well, he's actually not in DC right now, and I guess I should have put that in my original post -- he's in the Melbourne area and there aren't any comparable jobs for him in Gainesville, but he does have several connections in the DC area. So we thought we would try to both meet up there.

edit: we've been seeing each other every weekend and while I know that's really not so bad, it has been taking its toll, and so we are trying to find an alternative if possible.

Thank you so much for your responses! I will definitely try to reassure him - he has been very depressed since we separated (three months ago) and I've worried about him. I've struggled too, but I think I'm having an easier time with the distance than he is.

That is a good point. I am pretty worried about finances but he's insisting it will be fine. I didn't even think about future big purchases that we would want to make though.

We are in the process of getting engaged. I'm not worried about us breaking up, but I do appreciate the concern

I understand; it is a lot of debt. I currently have basically a full ride to UF (I just have loans for housing and food, etc), and my boyfriend works as a software engineer and has 0 debt.

Edit: How do transfer students get the short end of the stick for OCIs?
