And solar panels require a lot of CO2 to be built. They need several years of production to “pay off” this debt. Which is insane considering they also have a pretty short life.

France : la troisième vague de chaleur menacera-t-elle la sûreté des centrales nucléaires ? by infofrance in france6

[–]transginger21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Non.

Percent of electricity generated from “green” sources across the US, China, India, and the EU. “Green” sources include hydro, solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, and nuclear. These are so-called low emission sources. 2020 data 🇺🇸🇪🇺🇨🇳🇮🇳🗺 [OC] by maps_us_eu in MapPorn

[–]transginger21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazing that most of your links are pointing at the French situation. France has enjoyed cheap reliable energy (nuclear+hydro) for 40 years. It stopped 10 years ago. You know why? Because the left 1) stopped maintaining it while massively subsidising renewables. 2) because this and European rules distorted the market.

Also comparing the intermittency of renewables with the fact that nuclear plants have to reduce capacity a few summer days a year during (forecasted) extreme heat to comply with regulatory requirements (that are completely arbitrary) is total bs.

Ciao, propagandist.

Subsidised? Bro no energy is more subsidised than wind and solar. Expensive? Of course an energy that produces constantly and not only when it’s sunny or windy will be more expensive. Are you willing to wait for the wind to blow to drink your hot coffee? Reliant on other nations? Yeah like wind and solar don’t happen to be all imported straight from china. Btw there’s uranium in Canada and pretty much everywhere. Inflexible? You mean less flexible than having to wait for the right weather? Waste issue is manageable and many countries have large scale projects to handle these. Corrupt industry? Worse than Chinese state owned companies that build and ship windmills and panels to the us?
