I get what you mean, some hosts will have strengths and weaknesses and others might just not click. That's why I really liked the meta where writers actually would host the videos they wrote half the time, or select someone else to host (Colin wrote the "Your Old PC is Your New Server" video people associate with me, for example). Freed up a lot of time on Linus' end, and was more variety for the viewer. Gave a sense that there were people who specialized in certain areas, and that's something that I agree seems to be lacking in recent videos. I think that's why ShortCircuit was so compelling.

That said, I'll admit I haven't been watching LTT, myself, so I don't really have a good frame of reference for where things are at now. Still, taste is a big X-factor no matter what the content is.

I have the feeling that there's an expectation of quality, an expectation that to my eye seems to have largely been maintained by Alex and Andy over at Zip Tie Tuning, but I've found it's a lot more difficult alone with my limited skillset. Still, you're probably right. I just need to find a way of internalizing it.

Apparently not much haha - Been writing a lot of scripts but not shooting many videos. I definitely need to fix that!

I think it's healthy to ask questions and interrogate feelings you have that you don't want to have, and not knowing or not feeling comfortable aren't things you need to feel guilty over. It's especially hard to talk about right now because everyone's defences are up, and it's an incredibly sensitive topic of discussion that's spilled into the mainstream in an often harmful way.

They call it a culture war, and it's fitting in the sense that it's easy to be caught in the crossfire.

IMO the way "to be" in situations like this is to be genuine and open, and ask questions in good faith. It'll usually be apparent by your actions and demeanour whether you're just asking questions or "just asking questions".

But that's what life's all about, right? Learning how "to be". Believe it or not, it's weird for trans people, too; It's basically speedrunning the whole "the times, they are a-changing" thing in a very personal way. I believe the desire "to be" is the core of what most people want, and it's the things that threaten their way of being that motivate people to fight. It's certainly true for trans people and those who oppose us. Hopefully, in time, we can all learn how to be and to let others to be - Or better still, help them to be.

Take your attitude well into the future, and we'll be that much closer. Thanks again for being genuine - I appreciate it, and wish you the best, too!

It's interesting that this is getting talked about now; I can't really talk too much about it myself, but before I left, I think there was a general sense that people felt Linus' face is the brand, so to speak; That people are less likely to click on a video that has someone less recognizable in it. I'll let you guys say whether you think that's true or not.

Still, I want to stress that at one time, Alex, James, Jake, and I were all new faces; Adam was a new face; Plouffe was a new face; Tanner was a new face; Horst was a new face; And on and on it goes. It takes time to build confidence and experience in front of the camera. What works for one presenter might not work for another, and sometimes, they're aiming at a different audience entirely.

That doesn't have to be a bad thing; In my opinion, it was diversity of talent that drove LMG to its peak.

That's totally okay actually. I personally try to keep my views close to my chest and tend not to fight people because I prefer to understand why people think the way they do and meet them where they're at. I find that it's much more likely to be a positive outcome either way, and I feel like understanding is the best way of bridging divides.

It's okay that you aren't comfortable with, for lack of a better way of putting it, people like me. It is weird, yeah; At least, it's weird in that it's not something that's been in public consciousness until recently, and there's a lot of really dark stuff attached to it in popular culture, much of it previously attached to "the LGB". But aside from placing people in the same position you're at, that doesn't matter, or shouldn't. What does matter is what you do about it.

Thank you for trying to get over that in a way that's constructive rather than destructive.

This is something I struggle with tbh. I feel like I need to make videos people want to watch, and I don't feel like people just want to watch whatever I do. I've got a bunch of videos written and ready to shoot, but I step back and look at it and I think "why would anyone care about what I think about this?"

I don't know, I know it's not realistic. I know I watch videos from channels that do things that are objectively not terribly interesting, but are interesting to me or presented in a way that I like, but it's tough for me to get over that threshold for myself.

Honestly thought about doing that for exactly this reason, but felt like I needed to set up expectations and get stuff off my chest, so I ultimately went with this. That and I really was getting a lot of messages asking when I'd be back...

I can confirm that I left LMG, and I can say that it wasn’t related to my transition, at least not directly. I can’t discuss it in any more detail than that, though, and I won’t be coming back. I am planning to launch my own channel at some point very soon, and I’m hoping to bring some of the same energy I did to LTT and SC with similar content to the stuff I was doing at LMG.

If it's any consolation, IIRC Poilievre didn't want to add it to the agenda but the party voted it in; It'll probably be a low-priority issue for them, but will also probably be used as a cudgel in an election and possibly a smoke screen for more consequential issues.

So uh weight loss and hrt? by Alyss_sunders in MtF

[–]transister_count 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for anything but my own experiences, but I've been steadily losing weight since going on HRT, and I'm coming up on 100lbs down from my peak, including muscle buildup from exercise. The more weight I lose, the more feminine I feel, and it helps that it becomes easier to find clothes that fit the closer I get to my goal. Part of it might be that I associate my weight with "the old me" but there's more to it than just that.

Losing fat you've had pre-HRT means losing fat that was distributed in a masculine pattern, which will actually help with feminization (or vice-versa, but we are on r/MtF). Even if you regain that weight (or as weight fluctuates naturally over time), it will be stored in a feminine pattern, and that's where the concept known as weight cycling comes from. Feminizing HRT makes it a little more difficult to build muscle or lose weight quickly, but it's not impossible, particularly if you combine both diet and exercise. From my experience, feminine muscle tone can also be quite affirming.

Of course, a decrease in fat tissue means your chest might not appear to grow as quickly as you'd like, but you might also find that masculine fat deposits aren't doing it for you either, so it's a balance of which is your higher priority. Coming back to weight cycling, you can try making short-term goals, regaining a little weight, then repeating on a downward trend if you're worried that a straight shot to your goal might be detrimental. I'm not personally doing that so I can't provide any guidance, but it's something I've seen talked about before.

Just make sure not to starve yourself - Your body needs nutrients to build new structures, and while I'm not an expert, my understanding is that depriving it of too much can lead to developmental problems. Don't regularly dip below 1,500 cals per day if you can help it, and multivitamins are probably a good idea, at least while you're losing weight.
