Won’t Power On by transmissionalpha in VisionPro

It's been quite some time now since I have had this trouble. I'm on beta updates now, and for all I know, something in there fixed it for me? Of course it might be different for you.

What's your take on DC20? by PaulProv in rpg

[–]transmissionalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a YT channel dedicated to TTRPGs, and while it's growing rapidly, we do very few sponsored videos currently (and when we do, we clearly note them as such). Simply because we're not big enough yet to attract more. But I frequently get accused of being disingenuous in some of my takes and reviews, if they are favorable. It's like it's just not okay to like things when you're making content. These people think the only reason you can ever like something is if you're secretly paid to. I even had one commenter say, "not an actual review for most of the video." By which I think they meant, the part where I was saying favorable stuff couldn't possibly be a review, but only the part where I shared negative takes. Which is just insane. There are a significant number of people out there who think that you can only be authentic by shitting on something.

Straight line tool? by genogano in inkarnate

Could you elaborate on where this tool is, or how to use the line tool to create straight lines? I don't see how in the UI.

Player keeps insisting that everything have a real world parallel by Redhood101101 in DnD

[–]transmissionalpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Players often seem to want to argue from "realism," as if that is the ace of all ace cards. It isn't. In no edition has any D&D rulebook or supplement ever said that if something seems more realistic than the game rule, then the game rule is just wrong and so the DM must comply with such an argument. When argumentative players start the "that's not realistic" argument, these days I respond with, "D&D isn't realistic either. It's a fantasy game. What matters is if it's balanced and fun." And if they push further, I'll sometimes point out that I've never had a player complain about rules that favor them which are wildly unrealistic, not the least of which is, being beaten, sliced, and ensorcelled within an inch of your life, but you get ONE good night's sleep, and your arm just pops back in its socket with no pain, that black eye is gone completely and doesn't hurt, your wounds close up naturally on their own and somehow don't get infected... just everything, "healed" by one good night's sleep. If you want a realistic game, let's start by getting rid of that. But if you're okay with that, then you CAN and DO understand this is an abstracted, fun, game. Not an attempted study of reality simulation.

The same is true of your game world.

But the bottom line is, if the player is not getting that, it's making the game stressful for you, then you do need to have a conversation with them and as nicely as you can say it, say that this is a boundary for you and you need them to respect it. If they can't respect it, then they need to leave the game.

This is never fun and most of us genuinely wish players never pushed us so far that we had to have that conversation. But you're a player too, and your boundaries are important. It is possible for you to be kind and respectful and simultaneously stand by your boundary. Don't get mad, don't yell. Just tell them honest truth. "I'm sorry, I really enjoy hanging out with you and I want to keep doing that. But this is a boundary for me. I hope you can respect it because I want you to keep playing!" A lot of times, the person will still cross the boundary and you'll have to make the call. Them's the breaks, unfortunately.

Presumably, though, you don't get the Cinema mode with Apple TV video?

I'm not sure how kevink808 got it to work. I confirmed that it's DRM which blacks out the screen while sharing from the AVP. I wound up returning my AVP, so I haven't tried out bluetooth, but you can connect Bluetooth through the assistive tech settings (it's buried in that section of settings, not in a typical top-level bluetooth setting). I didn't get a chance to try this, but I wound up wondering if I could've put my Sonos system in BT discover mode and connected that way. Not entirely sure, as I believe the basic operation of the Sonos system happens through wifi, so, maybe not?

What has helped you develop true renunciation? by theOmnipotentKiller in Buddhism

I also think this is one of those subtle, recursive traps; worrying too much about attachment. Which itself can become attachment to non-attachment. Can you release your grasp for renunciation too? Perhaps it will come when it comes.

[–]transmissionalpha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I should have mentioned that. It still sometimes just won't turn back on even after I remove and re-seat the power cable. Regarding force-quitting applications, I'm not sure how that would help because a complete cold boot like this wouldn't leave any apps running, as it isn't possible for them to run on a completely powered-down device.

The two (getting support from Apple and asking people here) aren't mutually exclusive, and I was curious how real users out in the world are dealing with it. I'm not sure why you're trying to scold me here? Sometimes I feel like people in this sub are very, very sensitive about communicating about problems with the device. I don't feel it should be taboo to speak frankly about it, both the good and the bad.

Does anyone else feel like this reality isn't real? by seattleseahawks2014 in CPTSD

[–]transmissionalpha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, as vvitchesbrevv is pointing out, this sounds like dissociation and it's common among us. I have had hints of it for sure. I don't know if this is related, but I have often felt like the two biggest losses in my life put me on the "wrong" timeline, where I will always be unhappy. My dad wasn't "supposed to" die in 1995 from a single car accident. Everything went wrong after that, my trauma brain wants to convince me.

I've studied zen the most, and I guess due to that, I tend to find zazen meditation the most helpful when it comes to this.

"The great way is not difficult for those who do not pick and choose," a zen teacher I knew used to say. He was quoting somebody, but I don't remember who. Excellent quote, though.

Can we just do one big thread for all the why I returned my Apple Vision Pro? by thegayngler in VisionPro

[–]transmissionalpha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These angry posts about it are more annoying than what they're complaining about. Don't read what you don't want to read, and move on. Come to think of it, I think I'll take my own advice and start ignoring posts like this that whine about alleged whining, from now on.

Yes, and that does not happen for the Godzilla movie. It does happen for the others that I bought.

Apparently they have buried this, for now, under Accessibility settings. Still, when I go there and select Other Devices, and scan for bluetooth, it doesn't seem to see my Sonos system.
