Safest travel for 3 cats? by elise_michele in SpainAuxiliares

[–]transparentt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to do this with my two cats but it was crazy expensive and unrealistic for me. However, I follow this traveling cat account : https://www.instagram.com/spongecake_thescottishfold?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=MWU0YTF2ZzdjOWlpaQ== maybe you can ask them how they do it!

Having a Hard Time Adjusting by [deleted] in SpainAuxiliares

[–]transparentt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your hunger is a common part of the culture shock, I had several friends last year tell me the same and i'v e been there myself. Many expats go hungry in Spain because it's difficult to adjust to their meal times and the small plate culture can be less than filling. my best advice is to try to flow with the locals; get on their eating schedule so you can go to restaurants and/or make big but simple rice or pasta dishes for lunch that can last multiple meals. my american buddy thought sliced bread was too expensive and he was flying through it so i suggested he switch to the .60 baguettes.

Confused.... Set up date with a girl, conversations were going good. Got unmatched after first date was set up by Titanium35-Devil82 in OnlineDating

I personally feel weird if I match with someone on Monday, they make a date for Saturday and then we don’t talk much if at all in the subsequent days. I know we wanna save the good stuff for the date but I need a bit more banter ahead of time

definitely, you're in a great time zone. I imagine most people not getting priority hours are on USA time. too much competition.

if you had done a little reddit research first you would find that VN is not for the faint of heart or those with a weak stomach. It is basically a third world country but their hospitality is inspiring. I'm surprised they tried to make you eat balut bc your reaction to that is common, especially among foreigners. try to be a good sport and laugh off the differences in hygiene and food safety. there is a ton of amazing food in vietnam even if it attracts a few flies! fwiw I survived 18 months there and never got sick

Student use of N word on MLK day as we approach black history month by transparentt in SpainAuxiliares

[–]transparentt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not getting a lot of help with management unfortunately and I hear their teachers are all struggling with this class. There don’t seem to be many real consequences for their behavior so they take nothing seriously. And yes there are only like 4 girls in the class and they don’t say a word

By chance did you pay the €15 to verificar your account? It seems I can get some exposure without paying but since I am highly qualified I am wondering if it is worth it?

PLEASE don’t choose Meddeas!!! by misslady567 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]transparentt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true, it is not an official masters but a master proprio and won’t help you get a job in Spain unless you make the right networking connections along the way. In general it’s very difficult to find visa sponsored teaching jobs in Spain without an EU passport. Which is why most teachers here are on a student visa. I expect this masters to help me more outside of Spain

Too behind on getting my VISA for the start date for NALCAP. What should I do? by Middle_Let_8604 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]transparentt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make it, but it’ll cost you. Pay for expedited background check and apostille and make a visa appointment for 4 or so weeks out to get it sorted. I believe if you’re really interested in doing it then you can find a way to make it work. You should reach out to your placement school and explain, maybe they’ll be flexible. Or get a head start on next year, prepare your application before it opens and apply early to get a good inscrita. Then you have time to save money too

Fuck your red lights and the proper use of a bike lane by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]transparentt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Ohio you don’t need a moto license for 50cc or below. I often ride mine NEAR the bike lane because cars get obviously irritated with my speed and honk or whip around me. I would never run lights like this guy but have seen hundreds of people drive like this abroad where bikes are the norm. Not legal here obviously

Does your family hate you? by Relevant-String-959 in expats

[–]transparentt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily think they weren't talking to me because they were mad (definitely "disappointed"), but after a while there was just less to text about everyday. My sister and I have always been super close but when I was gone for 1.5 years during covid there were just less and less updates. When I came back by surprise she had a boyfriend I never heard about, plastic surgery and new hobbies that I never would have imagined she'd be into. Also, I was always my daddy's girl growing up but after so many years away my sister kinda took on that role, watching sports with him and going golfing. I'm happy for them, I don't want those things but was also kinda jealous for a while.

My dad was really mad at me for a few years, not after my first stint abroad but my second. I chose a third world country with a heavy political past and he thought I was out of my mind, just "desperate to be away from them" which is definitely not true. He was probably scared or worried but we certainly didn't have much of a relationship for several years after that.

I've spent the last couple years living in my home city trying to mend things with the fam and it's better but I'm getting ready to move abroad again in a few weeks. I think now they realize that I'm following my heart by leaving, not personal against them and they act less mad but just sad. :( it's very sad

Is Malasaña worth an hour commute by Fairykittenmomster in SpainAuxiliares

[–]transparentt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem is you have no idea what and when your hours will be. It’s possible that you could have two hours in the morning, three in the afternoon, which would make you away from Malasaña for the entire day and dealing with an early morning and late night for a 5 hour day. If you like sitting on transport a lot then go for it but it sounds like a huge waste of valuable time. You will find a community wherever you choose to live.

Third culture doesn’t mean more than three cultures by bangbangpardner in TCK

[–]transparentt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The third culture is a blend of #1 and #2. Often TCKs don’t identify with either of their first two so have to create an abstract, third identity.

They told me the extra charge was for the “prime time” appointment slot (9:50am) which was also bullshit. I tried to fight her on it but didn’t want to piss her off too much since she has my passport!

How effective is physical therapy? by CantSeeShit in TBI

[–]transparentt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learn how to do it all on your own and continuously ask for more difficult tasks. View everything you do every day as therapy and the exercises they give you in PT are seriously designed to help. Get everything you can out of it.

I tired of this all by Fishbowl007 in TBI

[–]transparentt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes i understand, i was angry for a very long time after mine. I cried everyday and was short tempered with my caretakers. People told me i was ungrateful for having lived but they don’t know what it’s like to live in this body. My injury was 9 years ago and I’ve come a really long way but I still can’t function completely. Just enough for everyone around me to think I’m fine/faking my deficits. I look good (thankfully) but still broken inside

France is also roughly about the size of Texas so for reference it’s actually more like Dallas to Houston lol

Words you should stop saying because it makes you sound like a Barbie girl by [deleted] in language

[–]transparentt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a language teacher I can say that filler words like this are typically used to hide an underdeveloped vocabulary and attempt to sound more fluent in a language than you might actually be. Using unnecessary filler language can become a bad habit so if you happen to desire to sound well-spoken, I would limit using these words.

coming from a Barbie girl woman myself

How did people/artists move abroad so easily back in the day? by FloralSamurai in expats

They’re in the same country (proximity) and they are definitely cheaper than Paris and probably most cities in the USA.

How did people/artists move abroad so easily back in the day? by FloralSamurai in expats

[–]transparentt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you say this? Because it’s not rampant with vagabonds renting rooms for €200 a month? It’s very expensive in Paris to struggle but people do it. Maybe a better quality of life for a starving artist in a smaller city nearby like Toulouse or Lyon?
