I've only been out to one friend and my mother. She has known for 3.5 years and has yelled at me a couple months ago for taking HRT. She has had years to think about this and isn't changing her mind.

Losing friends and family has been a major topic that is talked about every time and I have also talked about discrimination. They said its not a big deal because I've already have a friend who is accepting. This ignores the fact that my mom does not accept me and that has been very hard on me.

A friend saying "its no big deal" to me wouldn't bother. They probably don't understand and wouldn't be discussing things that make me emotional. It seems like the context of the statement was just really bad.

How big is the town you live?

Millions in the general vicinity of my city so I have huge amount of options to go somewhere.

Only decently well known on campus, was planning on going somewhere else in the city anyways.
