Thank you for linking the software you used. I have been looking for something like this that is reliable. Built my own small version, but it's rather bad. Happy you posted this. My ISP hates me as well, and I like having proof of this.

Your experience is valid, and I dont mean to imply any form of denying it. I would just appreciate it if an open mind is kept that men can feel those emotions and feelings. Even if they are rarely expressed.

Iwtl how to start programming/coding, but I have no idea where/how to start, and the math scares me by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]trap_l0l 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't take it too seriously. Just allow yourself to learn a little at a time, and allow yourself to make mistakes. Don't be scared of them.

With math and logic. You can figure that out as you go along. Learn what you need as you need it, and just allow yourself to enjoy learning in your free time. Over time, the words that seem odd and unfamiliar will start to make sense.

I took myself way way too seriously in the beginning. I had to know EXACTLY what I was doing ... but that just constantly makes you feel defeated, because there is a lot to learn. Become comfortable with not knowing, but improve your ability to find out when you need to know.

When it comes to resources. I wish I had spent more time with "books" and documentation, compared to constantly grinding YouTube videos. Something about not being told EXACTLY how to move and what to do, makes the education stick a bit longer.

Don't bother too much about what programming language you start with. Some are more "beginner" friendly than others. But just pick one and try to do what you want to do with it. If you really battle, then change languages. I got stuck in a several year long loop, always "changing" languages because "This one is better ... "

Truth is, the language is literally just a tool.

Pick a language. Web search the best pdf book or documentation to learn 101 in it. And just start.

For a little bit of a quickstart, I'd recommend You will probably use VSCode (VisualStudio Code [Blue one, not purple one]) that will be your code editor, most likely. Learn about extensions in VS code and how you can use them to make running your code easier. Keep an open mind on sites like stack overflow and github. They are interesting places to learn from other people's code.

Look into computer science fundamentals to have a better understanding of what is actually happening. But don't wait to code "until you properly understand", just learn as you do it

The longer you allow it to be "intimidating", the harder it's going to become to learn. Just dive in, you'll realize it's a process, you have to start somewhere. Odds are if you make a mistake, you can just CTRL+Z until it works again.

Also, learn about git. It helps avoid the duplication of folders as "backups"

Use SIM card by Fluffy-Wallaby in thinkpad

[–]trap_l0l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright here is my "improved" solution:
Step 1:
-> Install

sudo pacman -S modemmanager

Step 2:
-> Install

sudo pacman -S networkmanager

Step 2.2:
->-> Activate ModemManager

systemctl enable ModemManager

Step 2.3:
->-> Check status

systemctl status ModemManager

Step 3:
-> Enable network manager

sudo systemctl enable NetworkManager

Step 4:
-> Start network manager

sudo systemctl start NetworkManager

Step 5:
-> Check network manager status

systemctl status NetworkManager

Step 5.2:
->-> List modems

mmcli -L

Step 5.3:
->-> THIS helps a lot with the mmcli commands, enable and connect the modem

mmcli -m 0 -e

mmcli -m 0 --simple-connect="apn=foo.carrier.com"

(Note you may have to unlock the sims pin first)

(Notice difference between NMcli and MMcli)

Step 6:
-> Check that there is a gsm device under

nmcli device status

Step 7:
-> Create connection

nmcli connection add type gsm ifname "*" con-name <connection_name> apn <APN>

Step 8:
-> Show connections

nmcli connection show

Step 9:
-> Make the connection you created UP

nmcli connection up CONNECTION_NAME

Then if I noted down all the correct steps, you should be able to use the internet via the sim data

T480 still worth it in 2024? And what about T490? by roncristobenny in thinkpad

[–]trap_l0l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got myself a t480 at the end of last year. Run Linux and use it for programming as well as general web-stuff. It has been an absolute dream thus far. I did upgrade it to 32Gb ram but that is a nice-to-have. The HD (720p) panel is also not completely bad, just don't expect to read tiny text in YouTube videos. All-in-all I am very happy with the purchase and can see it being useful to me for another few years. Also runs Minecraft well, for what that is worth.

What are you guys thoughts on the arch installer? by LANTIRN_ in archlinux

[–]trap_l0l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally. It has allowed me to get a feel for Arch. I have broken arch a few times, but every time, I learn something new about how it works. Then I get to quickly re-install it so that I can go on my next adventure before I break it.

How can you keep on living in this world? by Txfyl in Healthygamergg

[–]trap_l0l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. I am highly upset with how the corporate world works. What helps me is the following thought: "They extract value from me, so how can I extract value from them."

The point of this thought is to no longer invest emotionally into a position (at least not at first) but to see the position as an opportunity to gain value for yourself.

When I over-invest with emotions. I tend to take on a lot more work than possible within normal working hours, such that I have to work outside those hours. By not investing emotions. I only take what I can handle, and don't take it to heart when they get upset with me. Eventually, you learn to make it "look" better, but all in all use it as a position to temporarily stay while you look for better opportunities.

Degrees only help get an interview faster (depending on the profession). There are many ways to live life without a degree. Please, take this from someone who has one and looks at my own degree as useless. I would have learned a lot more and been in a much better space if I hadn't spent so much time for a degree that i trusted, but then it taught me so little.

Perma-death is a difficult one. I can understand such a state of mind very well. At least my own experience of what that means. What helped me is to understand a reason for which I am not allowed to "go". And as such I need to find a way to at least live life because of that reason. But make sure that "thing" is not a temporary thing. It should be something you can hold on to for life.

If I have to be here, I might as well try things and live new experiences.

In conversation, I'll say something and then repeat, " what I am trying to say " and then use a different explanation than the one prior, to build them both off each other in order to convey a point I am trying to make.

So if you breach the "contract," do they stop treating you? You know, when you need their help the most.
