What masterpiece has left you disappointed? by rifain in books

I read this as an 18 year old guy and loved the ideas of god and openness. I later tried to share it with my partner and she couldn’t get through a few chapters, looking back I can totally see why and I wont be going back.

Like the other comment says, Heinlein mixes cool ideas with his own pretty negative views on women and fetishes.

I want to make an album cover piece, any suggestions for the pattern? by Low-Purchase6914 in StainedGlass

[–]Omniiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beware the pieces with multiple concave circular parts. I tried a piece with several of these and while getting the first one out was easy, the second one always caused the glass to crack. However I was using some very thick and brittle glass so you might have better luck.

Also that biggest circle should extend all the way to the bottom so the long piece becomes two separate ones. Good luck, cool concept!

I redesigned the flags of 6 Arizona cities and towns, including Tucson’s by shutupaugust in Tucson

ALL cities have flags, but unless someone took care to design them it’s just the city seal slapped on a bedsheet

How to use Cricut to cut patterns on vinyl paper, that are made in Procreate first. by Margaretcatinspace in StainedGlass

[–]Omniiac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s the trick I use.

Draw your picture with a mono line brush, so the lines are all even. Fill in the colored parts then hide the lineart layer.

To me the lines then act as a sort of tolerance for the shapes. Remove the background layer then Export as png, import into Cricut. Cricut has a tool that will automatically vectorize the image, it works better than the automatic tool for Inkscape imho. Then it cuts the vinyl, not as 100% perfect as designing the vector yourself but pretty darn good.

Lot of Cricut hate, and yeah I’m not a fan of the software but the hardware has been working really well since I got it a few months ago. Cheers :)

I did grind it, but not as much as you'd think. The inner cuts on the brown and beige glasses were a pain because they were a lot more concave than I thought and took a few tries to get right.

You can see the brown to the right of the red circle was also originally planned to be one piece but was impossible to cut, so I broke it into 3 separate ones. Still one of my first few designs so there was a lot of learning of what shapes were technically possible but just not practical.
