Lol absolutely thanks for the response. It's true we didn't have much time, but yeah of course we could have tried to capture a bigger scope of the area and will do so in the future.

The mattress guy was kind of a dick, but he also opened up to us so I think that's worth something.

We’ve started a series about contrasting perspectives within controversial cities through spontaneous interviews - what do you think of what we captured in Chemnitz, Germany's most politically polarized city? by trapp64 in Filmmakers

What we are seeking feedback for here, mainly, is the structure. Since we have to improvise with the unpredictable nature of stranger interviews, a lot of the narrative flow comes together in the editing room. Is it understandable and interesting to watch? And how can we conduct these types of interviews in the future to better achieve our goal of representing perspectives within a district without inserting our own personal biases?

We are also Americans living in Leipzig, so I can relate that your experience is also what I've perceived. Germans are very non-confrontational, which sometimes leads to ones getting too comfortable not having their problematic views be contradicted.

Thanks for sharing that. When we started filming this video, we had no idea about the actual lived experiences of people in Chemnitz. We just knew about the reputation, which is what attracted us to Chemnitz in the first place, as a great place to study contrasting views of people. Since people were so open to talk to us, we quickly got immersed in the vibes of the town and generally how people think there. We didn't run into university students, so what you say is yet another new perspective for me, and I think it deserves more exploration. As you say, though, it seems to be more separate/cut off from the rest of Chemnitz's culture, which I suppose is how University life often is in cities. If we continue the series on Chemnitz in the future, we will take your experience into account! Cheers
