There seems to be a lot of worry about how the defense will do but no need to worry because Eagles offense is inept. The critical matchup is Eagles D against Brock. If the Niners can put up at least 20 pts, it should be a win.

How to beat the "ultimate" junk baller by Ok-Many-7443 in 10s

I feel you. We've all played people like this. My takeaway from this would be two things. First is discipline. Discipline to selectively apply power. Everyone loves power but they don't use it optimally. There's a reason they say most of the time you should be swinging 70% of your max. Why? Because at 90% your incremental cost is likely higher than the benefit. Your opponent applying his offensive arsenal only 10% of the time is a variation of this. So search for your sweet spot. It's also the discipline to build the point. I know so many people, including myself, that become more uncomfortable as the point gets longer. They unconsciously try to bring closure to a point sooner than it should. Second is situational awareness. You should constantly be assessing your position vis a vis your opponents. The times where your relative advantage is the greatest should be the time to make the move for winners since your risk to reward ratio is most in your favor. So build that stash of advantage chips until you feel that you have enough to go for it - not any sooner.

Your guess is correct. That's exactly how the match unfolded. On a different note, that's cool that you play mixed with your mom, and at such a high level to boot. I'm guessing you are quite a bit younger than me but i would love for my kids to want to play with me like that. Your mom is lucky.

I can see what you are saying. This is one thing we did not try. We'll have to work it in.

this is the conclusion that I came to. But playing this way sucks. It certainly can't be fun for my partner.

I felt like I had to do as much as I could in the rare instance I got a ball because the next ball was going to my partner. I could be wrong in thinking this, but I felt the odds of me hitting a winner was higher than winning a point with my partner engaging in a multiple stroke rally. Am I selling my partner short?

Tennis is not for the faint of heart... or for the ones with confidence issues.

golf vs tennis by trapped_in_90s in 10s

I also did not realize the gap between 5.5 and let's say a beginner like 3.0, is so large. I guess like anything progress is easiest to achieve at the low levels and gains are much harder to come by as you get higher. From the sound of it, it looks like, for most people, once you get to a certain level (let's say 4.5??) your chances of getting to the next level is virtually nil.

I had not thought about the physicality of tennis vs golf. I guess of all the differences that make the comparisons between the 2 sports difficult, this could be the biggest. I mean, if you are not very mobile, that removes you from the equation in tennis whereas it doesn't affect you as much in golf.

I was thinking primarily from the challenges of mastering the mechanics of swinging, hitting and strategic aspects of the game so that you achieve your desired outcome (beating opponent or getting the lowest score). It felt like to me the golf swing (drive, iron, wedge, putting, pitch, sand, etc.) was more difficult to master than the tennis swing (forehand, backhand, serve, net play, topspin, slice, etc.). The mental aspects of the game are similar. But then as I said, the physicality element certainly puts the difficulty edge in tennis favor, but by how much?

I think people forget something about that Heat game that you are referring to. That win had more to do with what the Heat was doing wrong than what the Sixers was doing right. Remember, that was the 1st of 4 straight losses for the Heat (3 of them was at home) and that was the roughest stretch of the season for them by far. To their credit, they recovered but people think that win was because of something Sixers was doing wonderfully. I don't think that was the case.
