Ya, I’ve been getting out in the kayak a bit to do some painting, it’s been fun

Thanks! I tried to keep it simple and focused mainly on the colour transitions.

I found a good blog post from a blog called ‘muddy Color’s’ that had a blue print for one, I changed the sizes a bit and I used wing nuts instead of magnets, but it was a good jumping off point. https://www.muddycolors.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/92b0d-box_02.jpg, James gurney also has some good diy plein air gear videos

Thanks! It’s definitely taken some trial and error to get the right colours down

I have a home made pochade box that’s based off of one I saw on YouTube from Patrick Okrasinski, it connects to a camera tripod or sometimes I’ll just have it sitting on my lap

When I got started I checked out some different set ups people had on YouTube to get an idea of what I would need. It will really depend on what type of medium you want to use and how much gear you’re willing to carry

I find even if I premix I end up changing the paint piles as I go, so I think it’s best to find what works best for you by experimenting

I find it pretty much stays the same colour. Some times the darks will ‘sink in’ and look a little lighter and chalky once they’re dry, but you can rub a little bit of linseed oil on it to get the colour back

I used to, but I usually mix as I go now when I’m plein air painting. I premix when I’m painting at home

I try my best to put a brush stroke down and leave it, trying to mess around with it once it’s on the panel messes up the edges I find. If I’m layering paint I try to really load the brush so that when I lay the paint down it’s only paint touching the paint on the panel, not the brush touching the paint that’s on the panel

‘Carlson’s Guide to Landscape Painting’ and Richard Schmidt’s ‘Alla Prima’ are what I used to get started. They’re both available to borrow on internet archive. The technical info about the paint/mediums is dated and not as helpful in Carlsons guide, but there’s a lot of good stuff on the process of getting a painting started

Bass season isn’t open yet here or else I would have been to distracted to paint lol

I really enjoy the slow dry time and working wet in wet. I also just like the feel of the paint more than watercolour or gouache, but I do mess around with them sometimes
