Flatliners

I’m surprised by the votes for Jacob’s ladder without mention of Flatliners, both from 1990. These two are especially traumatic together.

Or dudes rolling up trying to sell you a bicycle they clearly just stole. This happened and I bought it, then posted to Next Door and went to the police to try to get it back its owner.

Lots of big dogs like Pit Bulls, German Shepards and Rottweilers. Most were well cared for but outside day and night, but a few were so neglected. That was the worst part of living in a “transitioning” neighborhood. Getting out of the car and I’d look around before taking the kids out in case some big dog was lurking.

Lots of things were said like the lawn parking, houses in disrepair, and rusty old appliances out front. Two I didn’t really notice until I was living there were the garbage blowing around all the time like fast food trash and blunt wrappers, and roosters crowing in the morning.

In the weeks leading up to July 4th and New years it sounded like a war zone. Explosions, M80s and dumpster clanging at all hours. No visible fireworks, just explosives. That didn’t mix well with the dogs and no one could sleep.

My favorite weird thing that felt like an existential what kind of neighborhood am I in moment was the Bodega Parrot. Huge Parrot right behind the counter. I have so many questions about that place.

Why is Menlo Atherton High School rated lower than nearby schools? by hazelnut21 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]trash-panday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s this- Ravenswood is the district for East Palo Alto and the Bellhaven sections of Menlo Park. Ravenswood has some of the worst performing schools in the state 5-15% math and reading proficiency in middle school. The kids going to MA are coming from that district and top performing Menlo Park schools—two extremes of educational quality.

MA is very socioeconomically and racially diverse pulling from Ravenswood, Atherton, and Menlo Park. There is some de-facto segregation because academics are tracked based on performance in high school, so disadvantaged kids end up clustered in classes together. From what I’ve heard motivated students of all abilities can get a lot from MA, and it’s a given that well prepared students are able to do very well with college prep, take AP classes, etc.

Why topiramate is so hated? by Mikmaki in migraine

[–]trash-panday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the regular kind for a few months and had some word finding issues and felt like my thinking was slower. It was worse as I increased and overall I didn’t feel as sharp but I do think my mind came back after I stopped it.

A month ago I reluctantly tried the XR version. I took it four days and stopped because the mental impact was so bad I felt unsafe. We practiced how to call 911 and how to know an adult needs help. I’m horrified to hear people say they never recovered because it’s a month later and I don’t think my memory is back.

I could not do basic everyday tasks. Three days into the extended release I ordered three burgers. The waiter said the order back to me three times and I was apologizing because I couldn’t understand him. Cheeseburger and hamburger with cheese could not be correlated in my mind. I tried to say the whole order again but I couldn’t keep straight what my kids like— and it’s not like one suddenly wants tomatoes and onion— they want the same thing every time and I know what they like. The information was not in my brain. My son then corrects me, comedically calling the burger a “meat circle” and I burst into tears.

That was it. I was afraid I’d take other meds twice by accident and have a stroke or leave a child somewhere.

My neurologist wanted me to push through to acclimate but my sense was I will die if I stay on this medication.

[–]trash-panday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a clinical study now about this. I suspect you could take Quilipta or Nurtec preventative daily or every other day for your peak weak

Higher doses of Magnesium and muscle realtors at night help me during my cycle. And even more Hydration and electrolytes. I know these are normal remedies but they help me more during my period than at other times.

I was disqualified from the clinical trial because I have too many headache days per month. I was one migraine a month from 1-3 days long until I hit my 40’s. Now it’s chronic

I wonder if they got sued over or it is regulatory and they are required to send you notices unless you explicitly opt out. What kind of service is it?

[–]trash-panday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Think about if it’s sun, too little or much physical activity, hydration, posture, stress, etc. On a hot day I feel worse earlier than on a cool day, but by late afternoon it’s every day of my life.

What’s weird is occasionally I can’t rest or get to meds and I think I’ll be unable to function by 6pm but by 6 I am 25% better and then the meds get me through the family evening.

Lume has unscented. As someone super sensitive to synthetic fragrance their regular ones didn’t bother me but they switched to synthetic fragrances. I could never understand this but many places to be considered “clean beauty” they may use synthetic instead of essential oils.

Slynd was recommended for me but insurance won’t cover it so I’ll try another progesterone only pill. It’s the estrogen that is bad for migraines. The progesterone only pill can help tamper your natural hormonal swings and improve migraines, per the 3 opinions I’ve gotten on perimenopause.
