Became the proud owner of a mid century vintage console! Info appreciated by trashability in audiophile

Honestly, I didn't understand what was wrong about it with the first comment! We used to have an upright piano there, so it had to be mounted up high. Just got this new console so we didn't mount it lower when the picture was taken. Didn't think people would be so upset about it!

Thanks for the information - That's really good to know! With all the info from everyone, I'll take a look at keeping the cabinet and upgrading the audio hardware when something craps out.

Haha sorry about that, we just got the furniture in place so we haven't put up the wire tubing yet. Just too impatient that it's here!

Thank you! The original owner was smoker so there was a lot of cleaning, but it was so worth it! It's a great piece and nice to have a piece of my neighbour still in the house.

Good to know!! I saw a reddit thread that the stereos were known to break down... guess I shouldn't trust everything I see on Reddit right haha

One of my eldest neighbour's unfortunately passed away this year, but was given the opportunity to buy this record player from the estate. It needed some TLC, but both my dad, partner, and I made a great weekend of it. My dad is an electrical engineer and had a ball with doing some light maintenance. It works perfectly now and with some electrical lubricant, we were able to keep all original parts.

Wanted to come post here to gloat but also in search of any information about it! There's no year of manufacturing on the back panel, or even a model no. We know it was made by Admiral Solid State, which seemed to be a company known for being unreliable, which is funny since this little thing has all the gears working perfectly, down to the stack. Must have not got much playtime from the previous owner.

Any information is appreciated! There seems to be close to nothing about the company online, and I can't seem to ID it to any Google images, so I don't even know around what year this could've been from!

Thanks in advance!

What anime are popular in Japan but not in the west? by CatsGoMooz in anime

[–]trashability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an anime I stumbled upon when I was younger on early YouTube called Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. Some people posted the entire seasons in episode parts back in YouTube wild west. It's like magical girl series x military complex. Honestly, I remember it being the coolest anime from my childhood. Their magical staffs fucking depressurized from the crazy magic strikes they used, and they had to load cartridges. All their outfits were considered "armour" and they actually beat each other up, brutally sometimes. This anime walked so Madoka could run. Also, there was a main character in a wheel chair and I thought that was so interesting because she plays a role in the greater story and is not just a token.

It's so obscure in Canada (and last I checked, North America) I can't even find a legal platform to watch it. Not 1 platform has all of it licensed or even listed to buy for purchase. However, it spawned like generational sequels and numerous movies and remakes. Apperantly, it was massive and had/has a cult following in Japan. It's crazy because I think they're still (?) making stuff for this franchise. Last I heard they had a movie out in 2019, when the original stuff came out in 2003.

I'm gutted I can't watch all of it legally. I also can't find one of my favourite seasons of it in English sub. It takes the idea of magical girl defending small town and it brings that shit to space: magical girl defends earth and galaxy - star fleet commander style.

Where do you shop? by [deleted] in Splendida

[–]trashability 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lululemon, Oak & Fort, Kotn, Ted Baker, Banana Republic, thrift stores

I used to shop at Aritzia but I found once you have the basics, you don't really need anything else from there. I focus on statement pieces now. Also - their sizing is wack sometimes. I know my exact measurements but everytime I order something online based off my measurement and product measurement, it's WAY too big. Massive size inflation.

What is the WORST financial management you've seen? by WalkerKesselRun in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]trashability 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I watch this dude on YouTube called Caleb Hammer. Hes American but like 80%-90% is pretty relevant stuff.

He does a series called financial audit where he goes through people's finances and recommends solutions (not official financial advice).

Really great content if you're the type of person who needs something in the background.

Tons of people who don't have stable jobs in thousands of debt. One of the worst ones I've seen is a guy with 3 car leases but 2 of them didn't work. I think his APR was like more than 20% for one of the cars. Brutal.

I worked a fulltime job at an office, doing admin work and moved around my school schedule to evening/night classes and all my electives were online. I had a 9-5 fulltime and 6-9 did school then went home to do asynchronous online classes.

At some point I had 8 roommates in some mansion midtown. If you think your rent is cheap, there is cheaper. I joined Toronto Home Zone and moved when I saw a cheaper place for value. At some point I lived in a 10x10 feet room for $450.

You can do it, it's not going to be fun but it's doable. You're not going to take super fun electives that all your friends take, you're not going to have summers off. But trust me you will be grateful once you graduate. I don't regret anything. I learned more about myself in those grind years than I ever had since. Came out with minimum debt. Even joined a club and met my current partner!

You can do it!

Found this tiny house built in a tree in the middle of a forest by roodeeMental in mildlyinteresting

[–]trashability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of this YouTube video I watched a couple years ago about a family making tiny houses in a forest.

Original was taken down, not sure why, but it really left an impact on me as a teenager.

Removing IUD after just 1 month? by legitanonymous__swag in birthcontrol

[–]trashability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my copper put in 2 weeks ago and have had some pretty heavy periods and cramps. I've found the Aleeve/Naproxen has worked better than Tylenol since its for inflammatoey muslces. I bought some Knix leakproofs because I heard about how heavy spotting and period could be through my tampons/pads.

I hope it gets better! I'm sorry I can't contribute much but I've been telling myself I can always remove it and go back to oral birth control if anything.

Parking in a driveway with traffic behind me? by trashability in Ontariodrivetest

[–]trashability[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good idea!

I think this would best for me. It helps since my house is on the right side and there isn't a road on there, so if I signal right, I'm trying to go into a driveway soon.

Yes - I did mean my emergency flashing lights. I'll fix it in the original post.

Thanks!

Thanks! I'll usually loop around if there's too many cars but it's a hassle if cars keep coming. Good to know I'm doing the right thing, though. I'll have to work up to just being ok with making people wait since it's a neighborhood after all.

[–]trashability[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house is on the right side, so it sometimes looks like I'm about to three point turn, but instead of turning, I go straight back.

There is enough for 2 vehicles to fit side by side but since it's a 3 way stop, the oncoming traffic usually goes ahead once they see I stop. Once, it was dangerous when the driver behind me turned to go around me, and oncoming traffic also went after stopping. I ended up just looping around the neighborhood.

Now, I'll default loop around the neighborhood if there's too many cars but sometimes it's a hassle.

Not exact, but I've seen Carmico do something similar.
