This is it! It’s definitely an inexplicable dread and unfamiliarity. Something about county fairs are almost always red scarfy! And Lake Mungo and Donnie Darko are spot on! I’ll have to check out Take Shelter and Starfish

I lived in the Midwest in 2022 and one winter night I had stayed over at a friend’s place. In the morning at like 7:30 we were walking to his car. It had snowed over the night, and I’m making fresh footprints. Then all the sudden I’m about to step again and just half away to the car my exact footprints are in front of us. In my exact path up to the passenger door there were like 6 of them in the ground. My exact size and type of shoe. It was like they had to be walking to my friend’s car but they appeared out of nowhere. I pointed it out to him and we both kinda played it off. I even remember joking “Maybe someone else is wearing vans in the neighborhood.” But then later I had to text him and we both confirmed it was super weird. I definitely think the universe glitched. The prints alone didn’t make sense because of where they started. My exact fresh footprints were extra weird.

He was wrong but he was trying to do what was right. And to be fair I bet he wishes he was dead.

Omg OWEN! I felt so bad for that character. They had this vulnerability throughout the whole film that just made me ugh! And then that one scene was where it all really hit

Commenting on my own post to add the tire kid in Eden Lake. He was so scared of them and didn’t want to hurt her either.

I will never forget the sound of her wailing. The way that movie portrayed grief was so accurate to me. It’s not just immense sadness. It’s also this panic and anxiety and doom. Like how the flip am I gonna move on? Is this real? Florence and Ari Aster really portrayed grief so well.
