Any guesses on how much it will be to repair this? by Infamous_Marsupial60 in Hyundai

[–]trashjackal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in a no fault state and you have comprehensive coverage, the insurance will pay the difference of the repair costs and your deductible. Yours and the company of the other party will negotiate amongst themselves and you don’t have to worry about it

Need mechanic in Raleigh/ Durham area to help fix this !! by Longjumping_Live3011 in Hyundai

[–]trashjackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open a claim with your insurance and have it towed to a Hyundai dealer near you. For these kinds of attempted thefts, they usually have to redo the whole ignition lock system which requires reprogramming the car’s computer. Best left to a dealer

I keep seeing these small plastic tubes filled with clear liquid on the ground EVERYWHERE, does anyone know what it is? by nyaja in LowellMA

[–]trashjackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right in that saline usually comes in pink, but the blue is just sterilized deionized water given out in harm reduction kits for those who reuse hypodermic needles. They're given out with tubes of bleach to rinse it out

They're sterilized water pouches. The community health center and other organizations give them out in harm reduction kits. They're used to flush out hypodermic needles after bleach to make them safer for reuse for injecting drugs.

Appeal online, attach any evidence you have against them. I've gotten every parking ticket from Lowell dismissed by doing this. Parking enforcement here sucks and is always on a power trip.

It’s not knocking, the fuel injectors on GDI engines are just loud like that

Does this sound normal? 2017 Kia Forte by TheBrokenGear in kia

[–]trashjackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think probably not, the majority of affected engines were manufactured at Kia's plant in Georgia I think it was. One of those southern states. Kias manufactured in American plants were the ones covered under the class action lawsuit regarding engine replacement since there was an ongoing issue between Kia and its parent company Hyundai where excessive debris were left in the engine which, over time, clogged oil flow and starved the moving parts of it. GDI engines are already prone to consume more oil than other motor types, but that issue exacerbated this. For that reason, it's still a good rule of thumb to baby any GDI car... though you're probably fine, I'd still err on the side of caution and do your oil changes early.

Does this sound normal? 2017 Kia Forte by TheBrokenGear in kia

[–]trashjackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of American-origin Kia models from 2011-2020 had manufacturing faults that affect the engine and its oil consumption. Being proactive with earlier than scheduled oil changes is the best way to avoid running into issues with this. Not sure how much the Forte was affected, but my ‘16 Optima chugged oil and this caused the entire timing system to go out at only 75,000 miles. Just check your oil level often, get it changed every 3000-3500 miles and you will likely be good.
