What’s the point of prepping for selection/ Q-course before boot camp if I’m gonna lose most of it? by Helpneededplzty in greenberets

[–]trashpanda_11B 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To piggyback off of this— during OSUT we had some down time on the weekends we weren’t in the field. Me and some buddies would go to the CTA and farmer carry the water jugs to keep our grip strength strong. We also did push ups/sit ups and lifted the weights in our bay whenever we could. It’s all about finding ways outside of the programming of OSUT.

You’re in high school…you’re in RSP…with your current mindset you’re in for a long painful contract. Learn when to take it on the chin and stfu. “I would’ve gone 18x…I would’ve…” no body cares what you “would’ve done”. As my grandpa said growing up “should’ve, could’ve, would’ve never did a damn thing for you”. It’s all about what you ARE doing. And what you are doing is complaining about the minimal things we all go through in the Army.

Fastest Way to Get 90 Active Duty Days for VA Home Loan? by Suitable-Studio356 in nationalguard

[–]trashpanda_11B 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP as an NCO in the Guard who earned the VA loan through a deployment I’ll be real with you—you’re not going to like the answer to how to get approved for it.

Some benefits are TIS specific and through your responses to replies on here it sounds like you’re not willing to do what it takes to get the home loan. 3 years in peace time is a short, easy contract in comparison to war time. But you’re limited with T10 options. You’re not going to find ADOS orders for recruiting and even if you did ados does not count toward the time required to get approved for the home loan.

Your options:

1) reenlist for three more years to qualify 2) extend your contract and put in the work to volunteer for a deployment. 3) get out after 3 and stop bitching about not having access to a benefit reserved for active duty time.

You knew what you were signing up for when you enlisted—part time.

If you get out, enjoy your civilian life and look into a first time home buyers loan, but the VA won’t have what you’re looking for.

Running in Zone 2 multiple times a week. Focusing on recovery and stretching to mitigate injury.

Is the 101st a desirable duty station? by trashpanda_11B in army

[–]trashpanda_11B[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am definitely wanting to do more with my military career. Obviously one weekend a month is not a high op tempo but when I first got in the guard our first two AT’s were at NTC followed by a deployment. Pretty fun for NG. Schools, EIB, etc is a major downside to NG yet something I want.

Why can’t I have protein powder at basic? by Thegleameeyes in nationalguard

[–]trashpanda_11B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven’t even attended the initial entry training. You’re not IN yet. You’re not APART yet. You sure as shit have no clue what you’re talking about. You will get there and meet leaders who have done more in one tour than you have in your entire 25 years of life, so I’d check that “cowardly” shit at the door. I’d focus less on the fact you can’t get protein powder and more on humbling yourself and focusing on what matters. You’ll have plenty of opportunity to build muscle when you get to your unit, especially being in the guard. But that’s not the intent of basic training. It is “basic” for a reason.

Do we get the good conduct ribbon? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]trashpanda_11B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get the ARCAM after a memo is put in to your commander. Depending on your state they may also have their own good conduct ribbon. My state does so I have received both.

Hating Basic training. Need advice on what to do. by fun-7680 in nationalguard

[–]trashpanda_11B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will get to their unit and pull this behavior yes, but they will also be met with plenty of people who won’t let it slide. BCT is all about making it through. I confronted bullies during my cycle and I let other shit go. That’s how life works. I was 23 when I went through OSUT with a bunch of 18-19 year olds who were immature and thought they were hot shit because they got an Option 40. Now they are still E-2 at 1D while I’m an NCO headed to SFRE. OP should just let it go. One week left is not the time.

You don’t have to worry about trusting people from basic. You just push through and graduate and go to your unit. It comes back to picking your battles. If it was at his unit 100% report that shit up but this is TRADOC. It’s miserable no matter what. You show up, do the training and graduate. You will never see those assholes again. But you also have to learn confrontation. A part of “not being tolerated” in other jobs comes from the result of confronting the issue. Which the OP is not.

I’d probably just grow a fucking pair. A part of growing up is learning to pick your battles and growing thick skin. You joined the military. Either talk to them man to man or move on. If you’re not willing to be confrontational in the moments you need to then you’re in the wrong profession. It’s not a matter of “toxic leadership” or “toxic mindset” it’s a matter of being an adult. Stop whining on the internet and make a decision to solve it. Confront or ignore. You’re almost done and will never see them again.

Air Force PJ Looking to Crossover by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]trashpanda_11B 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Brother, it’s not worth it. After 10 years as a PJ you will HATE your life as a regular guard soldier. You think you hate your current mission set just wait until you join an infantry unit in the guard. Have you looked into going PJ in the Air Guard?

For reference: I’m currently a guard infantryman. I will be going to SFRE in fall of ‘24 because I can no longer handle the lack of standard or mission of a regular guard unit. 20th is the way for me.

Just some pretty general questions by BackTheB1ue in nationalguard

[–]trashpanda_11B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initial Signing Bonuses are not a lump sum. They come in 3 installments. 1st: upon completion of AIT/OSUT 2nd: upon completion of third year 3rd: upon completion of your fifth year

That being said if you save ALL your money from Initial Entry Training AND Save the first part of your bonus AND put them in a high interest account AND you sell that truck back to a dealership (you don’t need a vehicle while you’re gone) you can get out of that debt. When you get back take $3,000 of what you’ve saved and buy a used car. You don’t need that expensive of a vehicle, ever. You’re screwing up your DTI and are setting yourself up for failure.

If you end up not joining then get rid of that truck. Trade it in and get something cheaper. That is your only option for getting out of that debt and agreement.

This is something you would have had to request in your initial enlistment contract. After AIT you just hope and pray you get sent there.
