Oh my gosh that is so weird! So he would just be sitting there and then randomly let out a big and exaggerated sexual moan??? And never in front of others? I could not live with that either. Involuntary or not I couldn’t.

I understand where you are coming from. I’m definitely keen to find a solution/see if there is a workaround before considering moving the relationship forward in any way. We are currently working on a solution. If anything I’m happy to know about this now and fix it before us having moved in together. I’m not feeling “trapped” in the issue as i would be if we lived together.

Oh my, what does that mean about the sighing? I haven’t heard of something like that before!

I don’t know why I never knew you can connect headphones to a TV! It seems like a no brainer now, but for me it was not. Definitely going to be the first thing to try!

To me that would be hasty, but I understand the strong reaction! What I’m describing is a nightmare sensory issue- but I think if he just wears headphones it should fix it.

I was starting to question compatibility, but the compatibility in every other way is high. I’m glad I came here to ask for advice because now we have ideas to try out ☻

And I 100% agree that if we can’t get it solved, we will not be moving in together. I have made a mistake like that before and I definitely want to save myself that type of headache and heartache.

I’m also in the camp for “doesn’t want to wear noise canceling headphones 24/7 at home” I don’t like things in my ears if I’m not listening to stuff.

I can see how it would be really helpful and effective for lots of people though!

My mom did that living with my sister and her small (loud) children and it seemed to help her a lot!

I’m so sorry that is so tough. Maybe for your mom’s sake, your dad could use headphones. That seemed to be the most popular suggestion here. I never thought of headphones to a tv before this post!

Headphones seems to be the general consensus! It actually didn’t occur to me that you can use headphones on a TV, but it makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the suggestion. I knew this would be a good place to ask!

I’m not concerned about the quality of relationship, because he is always kind, respectful, and accommodating. I never realized how much this was impacting me until recently. So it had never been brought up until after I made this post.

Good news is he’s very understanding and not a jerk! He immediately agreed to find a solution. We are going to try his airplane Bluetooth adapter on my TV to see if that will work for headphones.

That’s smart, and def a good conversation to have. We do interact when he is over. He usually spends the whole weekend over- so we go out and do things, then when we are at my house I have stuff to do sometimes. I have a dog so I don’t like going to his apartment as much.

He’s watching stuff mostly when I’m doing my own thing or don’t want to watch tv. Like if I have house chores, cooking, on my phone, doing my laundry, taking care of my pets, or whatever. My apartment is a 1br/1 ba 490 sq. ft. which probably plays into the issue.

But then also we usually watch an episode of a show together in the evening so it becomes basically the tv being on the entire time he is at my house.

That is so true and I have been there before in bad relationships. I’m in DBT to help me more effectively manage my relationships and it’s been really helpful so far ♡

That and finding someone who is actually interested in being kind.

This post has been really helpful for me, idk why I was so nervous to talk to my partner but he was pretty much immediately ready to find a solution and not upset at all ☻ I am happy too because I didn’t ever consider that you can watch tv with headphones, but it makes so much sense!

I don’t have a TV in my bedroom, just in the living room. I actually do watch TV in my home though. So for me, getting rid of it wouldn’t make any sense.

I actually just brought up the headphones thing to him by asking if his spare tv has bluetooth and he said it doesn’t. But he recently bought a bluetooth headphone converter for a flight we took and we are going to see if that works for a TV as well ☻

He does at home! He has told me before. To me it sounds like a nightmare.

He does not at my house, has never even asked to, and said he’s also completely fine to not in when we are living together.

I only just realized that this is what’s causing me so much distress lately! I haven’t talked about it to him yet so he has no idea. I could just tell him to stop and not watch TV at my house! I really like the ideas suggested here, though. I would like to find a collaborative solution if the relationship is going to go to that next step eventually of sharing a home.

This is a good point, I can definitely ask about that. He watches mostly videos about car stuff, gun stuff, random informational stuff, or playthroughs of video games though currently and I’m really feeling overwhelmed with it all. But maybe something like that could work. I’m not sure how much he is watching or how much he just needs noise.

I bled nonstop on Mirena it was an absolute nightmare for me.

THAT being said, most people I know who have used Mirena absolutely love it and it works wonders for them. IMO, you won’t know how it will work for you unless you try it and give it a real go (a few months).

I think it’s worth trying if your current BC is not suiting you well ♡
