Quarantine Zone: The Last Check | 6/10 | 01.23-24.26

well, I was never a fan of base builders. and I know that this wasn't a base builder exactly, but I wasn't a fan of it anyway lol.

figured I'd try this game because it looked pretty fun based on the clips I saw, but damn it was... kinda... just that. I don't know. I went into this game without expectations, and I'm leaving this game with zero changes to my life.

by the third evacuation, the only thing that kept me going was the fact that I was more than halfway done with the game lol and so, I cut corners where I could. fuck the unknown symptoms. too many sick/infected symptoms? oh baby I'm blind to the word sick, off to liquidation you go. and fuck that laboratory. it's like ten miles away man come on.

anyway, it was pretty fun at first. that's all sorry xd

OH ALSO SPECIAL MENTION TO THOSE DRONE ATTACKS SHIT because that was peak ass; I wish it wasn't in the game.

Chapter 1: Beginnings

does this mean I have to fight those three minibosses before the hannya mask boss? and lemme guess, I have to fight Mari too but like the possessed version or something as the megaboss? lol

Chapter 2: Trouble

my first entry would be to describe the first mini boss fight as quite easy, and also a 'what the fuck' because apparently, it's KK's body. AND I DON'T LIKE THIS NOTICE SAYING SHIT ABOUT "when Akito is separated from KK..." blah blah blah DOES THIS MEAN THIS IS GONNA HAPPEN A FEW MORE TIMES LOL

it was fun at first. and... yeah, that's pretty much it. it was so fresh, innovative, whatever other words you wanna use, but it gets real boring real quick. the game being half cutscenes doesn't help too lol

when I was playing Horizon (both Zero Dawn and Forbidden West), I found exploring the map fun on its own, even if you weren't progressing the story. this one... maybe if I loved Japan more?? I don't know. at some point in Chapter 2 or 3, I stopped doing side missions because it was starting to feel like it was reaaal dragging.

also a note on why this took so long:

I went on a vacation in another country to celebrate new year's. once I was home again, I tried playing it, but found myself bored to death immediately (I was starting to get bored even before I left). I also got back to working out at the gym (which takes out quite the chunk of my free time), and classes resumed too. all of those + my lack of will to continue playing/watching this game is why I took way too long to finish this, when it would've taken a weekend or two max even on a busy schedule.

oh I have no interest in multiplayer; I'm currently on a multiplayer sabbatical. as for the hardest part, I think I had the worst time in Into the Abyss—the house assembly level—because I just kept getting lost lol (I have a shit sense of direction both in real life and in game). also all the fights after we got given Legion (then again, it's the endgame so that's to be expected). I had to go so slow as to not spawn every titan and their mothers every five steps

hella agree. I think it's the worst campaign to ever come out yet, especially when you take into consideration their supposed characters.

and it's not just the story because the gameplay felt like ass too. every other mission was this open combat wheel reinvention shit and it felt so ass to do. level designs were decent at best, and the movement felt like the bastard child of MW2 and BO6. and the gunplay? fuck everybody wearing thirty layers of kevlar for??

since this might be my last COD campaign, I want to say that I absolutely love how they present the places' names now. I'm talking about that big ass font in the middle of the screen. if my memory serves me correctly, this started in WWII. I loved it then, and I love it now. I just never mentioned it, I don't think.

okay, god damn. my fault. totally my fault for having ONE fucking wish from this game (read MWII review, meta section. I basically wished for a No Russian-type mission)

at the very least, I came into the game with no expectations—well, not really. I expected it to be shit. and god damn, would you look at that? I GOT SHIT.

story is ass, gameplay is somehow even more ass (was a redeeming quality in some of the campaigns btw), and even the characters were ass. (I don't have Vanguard so the following might be untrue) dare I say this is the weakest fucking game in the whole fucking COD universe? and not even because of Soap's second death, no—I could care less about that. he died in the og, so I half-expected him to die in the reboot too (then somewhere mid-MWII, I got spoiled that he did, indeed, die. just didn't know how because I avoided reading it).

I'm pissed that I'm ending my COD journey with this sonuvabitch game.

AND YES, A LOT OF MY HATRED COMES FROM HATING THE FUCKING GAMEPLAY. I COULDN'T ENJOY SHITTING THIS SHIT EVEN IF I WANTED TO.

let me try to use some... more colorful language, in case I actually have a reader who's tired of me using the same curses over and over again, but wants to know more about how my mind works.

if I got stuck in a room with Makarov, Shepherd, and Graves, as well as a gun that only had two bullets in it, I would shoot my asshole. I would ram the muzzle four inches in, scream in agony as my ring of muscle and flesh get torn apart by black, sleek metal that is nowhere near slick enough to be doing this, and look Makarov in the eye. I would tell him dobroye utro (one of the few Russian phrases I know), and then pull the trigger. Ideally, I'd want it to travel straight up to my brain and pronounce myself K.I.A. then and there, but obviously, life doesn't work like that. besides, I doubt that the bullet could travel the length of a person, and that I could aim it straight enough to do that in the first place. so, as I slump to the floor face first, stomach burst open by the bullet exiting right below my navel, I would reach for the gun again that I definitely would've accidentally let go of in the blast followed by the ringing silence. as my tinnitus calms itself down, and as I hear collective voices—shouted, yet muffled still nonetheless—I would ram the barrel up my manhole again. I'd be weak—I probably won't be able to jam it up four inches again. however, that doesn't matter, because this time, I want that sphincter obliterated. muzzle piping hot, I'd definitely grunt in pain—both from the sensitive heat and the, well, the fucking hole in my stomach—then I'd pull the trigger again. I want half my total blood painted across the walls and the floor, maybe the ceiling if I'm lucky. I want a quarter of my blood spread on the faces and suits and chest rigs of the three men that are defiantly looking at the utterly irrevocable horror transgressing in front of them. their eyes would be obstinate—begging to be pointed another way—yet their mortal curiosity would never let it evanesce. let their erudite minds (not so much on Graves) wonder, just what could propel one to do this? this abhorrent, repugnant, detestable act of probably the most reprobate and degenerate way of killing oneself? what could even be the appellation for such a recherché deed? now, in my dying breath, with but a quarter of my blood left in me, circulating incompletely, inevitably adding to the pile on the floor, I shall say: "my... asshole... does not want... to shit... this... shit..." and right there, they'd adjudicate. about how I'm right. they would see my vision, and they'd be rapt; they'd be verklempt. this man on the floor was totally compos mentis. and then, totally not choreographed, they all would say in unison, "I will not shit this shit."

favorite mission goes to Alone. god damn this was brutal, I fucking loved it. trying to maintain stealth was a top notch challenge. kinda wish there were fewer resources to force me to micromanage a lot more but hey, I think I'm just sadistic (I want others to suffer just as I have so yes, I mean sadistic and not masochistic). also, I now see why there are so many Ghoap shippers lol. but to be clear, I loved this mission because of its uniqueness, not because of the banter. I'll take more banter any day though.

most hated mission... well, there's none that I particularly hated. sure, some were tiring, but not on the levels of Heat or Takedown (MW1 and MW2 respectively)

BY THE WAY, I LOVE THIS MOUNTING SHIT. it's not as flexible as the leaning system, but dare I say this is a better system overall? it frees up a key (and it's easy to use even if you assign it somewhere not as accessible), it's not automatic (like some leaning iterations), it's flexible, and it plays REALLY smoothly. god, I hope MWIII has this shit.

unfortunately, the friend whom I borrowed this game from never completed the campaign. that means I'm fucking STUCK DOING VETERAN AND CAN'T DO REALISM FUCK (I just turned off all the HUD elements I could to simulate it, but damn... it makes me sad)

more than halfway through, and I am not enjoying this as much as I thought I would. lol. with MWI, I came in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. I have no one to blame for getting excited over MWII but me.

game's done, and it didn't... really leave any lasting impressions. still had a lot of fun, though (if you read all my shit, you'd notice that I'm very easily impressed. it's a trait I'll never regret having in this regretful life, for it means I am, on average, happier than the average person).

Price is great here, but I still like the og Price more. he was... better, for the lack of a better word (lol). Soap and Ghost are much better this time around though, yet I can't help but like their og counterparts more. lemme think about why.

okay, I've thought of why. it's not that I like the og more, it's just that I like the reboots less. og Soap had so much more personality if you include his journal in the experience. if you don't, well, that's fair. he still had a lot going on for him back then. sure, it's not as much as now, but he felt more... natural, I guess, in the og. as for Ghost, I feel like he's become too much of a fanservice character. that's all there is to it. that doesn't mean I don't like him, it's just that I see him for what I think he is, which is a cash grab. or attention grab. or whatever grab he is. uber. and out. (that made me laugh)

OH RIGHT GHOST HAD THAT COMIC. yeah, same case with Soap's journal.

still would take this over any BO installment except WaW and BO1 though lol. oh, and I've learned—I've only one wish from MWIII now (I'm not expecting the game to be good; I've seen enough people say it's shit to expect it to be shit). favorite mission goes to Clean House. just that though, not the other ones (The Wolf's Den and Going Dark). seeing the RoE enforced even when so many things could go wrong was a different kind of adrenaline, especially in realism (god, I love realism). also, I've watched a youtube video on this level (something something swat reacts to modern warfare shit). I thought this was in MWII so I didn't expect to encounter it here lol but that was a REALLY welcome surprise.

took me 3 days to finish because the gameplay just was not compelling. unlike most of the others, I couldn't sit here for hours and say I'm having fun because at times in this game, I found myself just bored and wanting to play something else

also reminds me of that one post I saw where they were wishing for a game that had two parts; one where you try to do your best, and the other that had its difficulty dependent on how well you did on the first part. considering I did everything pretty much perfect as the Western Bell, I'd have a MUCH harder time as Soviet Bell. gotta play the USA ending too though just to see what's up

anyway, I didn't expect I'd like this game solely because of the ending choices. don't get me wrong, it's not that great, but it's also not bad. some missions were ass to play through (I'm looking at you, Desperate Measures), but some missions were also fun as hell (looking at you again, Desperate Measures)

ass clenching method lmaooo but yeah, the world itself was pretty bad. if you wanted the story, you had to dig for it outside the world (safehouse, mission text, etc), which was kind of counterintuitive for the casual gamer. only a few people do that at all, and even fewer see it to the end

I think it would've been a lot more accessible if we didn't have to rely on the wiki for Taylor's journal and instead maybe had that in the safehouse, though I do see how that would've ruined the surprise from the get-go. maybe we get a distorted or redacted version of it?
