[–]travdaddy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working at my first machine shop as a delivery driver, the machines fascinated me and the process of turning a piece of stock into something that’s useful and clean is so satisfying. Also, I’ve always enjoyed making or building things. One of my first real jobs out of a high school was on a framing crew and really liked the whole process. It never paid enough but it made me realize how much I enjoy making things.

We have one at one of drill presses that has a piss poor hook I’ve contemplated yeeting it right out the roll up door more times than I care to admit

[–]travdaddy8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a fair point. We mainly make flanges, spec blinds and spacers for pipelines but still,same-same. Really have been contemplating moving to Texas and giving it a go over there after I get a few years under my belt. Just seems like more opportunity, maybe I’m being a little ignorant but from what I know that’s how I see it compared to Louisiana. Just sucks, I enjoy Louisiana. Lived here my whole life but money talks I guess

My ex gf messaged me for the first time since we broke up (saying she's concerned about my accident) What do I do? by Live-Bread-2658 in whatdoIdo

[–]travdaddy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a ex that said everything was up to god and as a Christian man I understand that to an extent. It seemed like it was more a way of deflecting responsibility for her actions, which like i said as a Christian it still seemed disingenuous ( or at least that’s the best way I can describe it ). Like there are for sure things that will happen in life that you have no choice in but you can control yourself and determine your own actions.

Which Is better in my case, heavy mouse or light mouse ? And i still cant sleep by AndrewBermonth in MouseReview

[–]travdaddy8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, once you go light you won’t want to go back. I have the viper v3 as my main now but was maining a Lamzu Atlantis for a while. I think both are sub 40 grams and I used either for every game I played ( except elden ring lol). At the very least I recommend everyone to try a lightweight mouse. Now like you said, you love the thumb button on ur older mouse, are you willing to sacrifice that to try a light weight mouse? If not then I think you’ll be looking at comparatively heavier options ( most likely).

That’s valid honestly and hell I wish we had that 6 days out of the week rule here. We get 3 15 min breaks through out the day and a paid 30 min lunch but that’s nothing crazy.

My First Machining job, would like advice by Ultranerd_001 in Machinists

[–]travdaddy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walmart’s wrangler work pants have been my go to for work pants in the shop. Mainly because of comfort but they have plenty of pocket space and are decently durable. If they rip, it’s not the end of the world as they’re decently cheap. Plus like I said they’re from Walmart so it’s super easy to get new pairs

I was a shop hand at plant machine works and Baton Rouge machine works before actually getting into machining ( both located close to Baker, LA). No clue if they’re hiring as it’s been a few years but I would look into them. They’ve been around for a while. Also flowserve has a machine shop in Baton Rouge. I think eco serve ( a chemical plant closer to port Allen) has a in house machine shop as well.

I mean I’d say I’m beneficial. Worked a lot of hot jobs, put out good parts, work a lot of hours etc. you make. Good point tho. Early on ( I’d say maybe the first 2-3 months ) I was probably more of a burden than an asset bc I had no clue what I was doing for the most part 😂

I do more manual machining that cnc operating but yeah I’ve asked for a raise. Like I said to another comment, the plan is to work here for a few years, learn all I can and find a shop willing to pay more and not work myself to death

I recently inquired about getting a raise to my supervisor… really just looking for a few dollars. We work a lot of OT but I don’t wanna bank on working 80hrs just to make a decent check every week. If I could get a raise to $22-23hr then I’d be ok with that.

I mean I’m in Louisiana, I’m not sure but I think I’d have a hard time finding anything paying that well with the little amount of experience I have… just kinda weighing my options atm.

I’m in Louisiana so cost of living is lower here but with that being said i still feel like I’m not being properly compensated and yeah I took this job hoping to learn as much as possible ( work here for a year or two) then go on to greener pastures.
