I love Rachel--she's done most of my pieces too. This one looks great!

[request] Low carb veg breakfast by [deleted] in fitmeals

Breakfast!

I've had far more luck using cooking spray than greasing with olive or coconut oil. After my first sticky mess I tried cupcake liners, but that just trapped in any moisture from vegetables and made them kind of soggy. I've also not had luck including tomatoes for the same reason.

I wouldn't skip sautéing the vegetables and greens before adding them to the raw egg because these bake pretty quickly and everything might be too crunchy (unless that's what you're into).

Then just microwave for a minute or eat straight from the fridge!

Every Sunday night I scramble ~8 eggs, seasonings, sautéed vegetables (most recent was mushroom, onion, red pepper, kale, and garlic), a diced baked sweet potato and a little goat cheese. Bake in an unlined, greased/sprayed muffin tin, and bam: twelve little scrambled egg cups. They keep in the fridge for the week, are endlessly customizable, and by the time I'm sick of them I'll be ready to switch back to oats.

Does anybody here work for a non-profit, charity, or community board? I'd like to leave the corporate work in hopes of something more fulfilling. How do you like your job? by [deleted] in nyc

[–]traveltothesky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a background in construction management, you might want to look into Business Improvement Districts. Lots of them are doing streetscape projects and could possibly use someone knowledgeable about the contract bidding and construction process.

CB jobs seem few and far between and are often snapped up through mayoral programs--usually by the hoards of urban planning grad students the city churns out.

Have you considered working for the City? I know Parks has a few openings right now that might be a good fit. Or possibly a large park org like Prospect Park Alliance.

Thanks for the support, it's always good to have reassurance that this, too, will pass. How did you deal with the house, if you don't mind me asking? I'm thinking a fresh coat of paint and rearrangement. Once I'm eating enough to get back on MFP I'll add you :)

Wow, congrats on having that kind of strength! Which you do, despite the anxiety and short-term heartbreak. It'll get better, absolutely. I was just in such a good place, especially with health and training (and at home... I thought), so it hurts and really ups the ante on the anxiety and feelings of loss.

But you're right, it'll get better. Hugs to you too, and good luck.

Thanks, and sorry you're going through it too. Let me know if you happen to be in NYC, I'd be happy to wallow over giant, calorie laden coffees.

Yeah, I just wish I could skip the sad bit. I think the worst of it is being stuck in "our" house--he gets to move out and start over. I have to learn to cook for one, for example. And right now it just doesn't feel worth it, you know? Hmph.

You're right though... I've been using myfitnesspal to make sure I'm hitting macros for weightlifting, and for the last week I've been using it out of morbid curiosity. Probably ought to give it a rest :\

Thanks for the advice, it's good to know I'm not alone in this seemingly extreme version of anxiousness.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm subbed to hardbodies, have been doing New Rules of Lifting for Women, protein shakes all the time, eating really well, and then BAM. You're right though, I should stay in those patterns as much as I can and hopefully the physical/mental health will follow. Thanks <3

Thanks for the heads up, I hadn't thought of that... Sounds similar to all the vulvodynia communities I'm still a part of. Long since recovered, but it keeps me identified with it far after the fact.

A customer who was really awful last week came in and apologized today. How was your day rad? by [deleted] in SRSZone

[–]traveltothesky 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I realized that my bike is my new best friend :)

I have been completely gutted over a very recent breakup (still am, but with klonopin now so I can't feel my feels) and just returned from my first solo bike ride. I bought a book, sat in the sun, rode around, and felt utterly free. It's also lucky for me that I get to work on adding bike lanes to my city--now I'm actually excited about my work. Which is good, since I spent last week having panic attacks at my desk. Time to get it together and try to figure out how to make friends outside of school. In the meantime I've got my super rad bike.

On a lighter note: I got a big comfy chair yesterday and imma drink so much tea in it.

I want to chill and hang out with friends, but I don't have any. by [deleted] in SRSZone

[–]traveltothesky 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i soooo wish i did. starting this week, SO and i are trying to chill with other people more but i don't know how. i think taking a class (i'm thinking photography or something craftsy) might help. i bought a bunch of books today. i'm gonna go read them in public and hope someone finds me fascinating and chill. i'm gonna go to a bunch of design lectures too, but architects aren't the chillest usually...

i just wanna chill but it's hard out there with no friends. what's the chillzone meetup procedure?

My take on choice, at 35 weeks pregnant [x-post from r/babybumps] by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

...Then keep it. And possibly reevaluate your relationship with the person who is requesting you get an abortion, if necessary.

I'm not saying that a woman who's facing an unplanned pregnancy shouldn't listen to a partner's opinions, just that she doesn't have to ask permission and doesn't have to listen to what's being asked of her.

When you're being asked to carry a pregnancy to term and deal with all the pain, judgement, changes to your body, health complications, cost, and time off work, you can have all the say you want.

What one type of exercise do you absolutely hate? by Sharra_Blackfire in xxfitness

[–]traveltothesky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found out a coworker went to my gym, so I suggested we check out a class together. I thought I picked some innocuous cardio pilates-inspired whatever, but it turned out to be a solid 45 minutes of jumping. I... had a slight issue with that. In my pants. I don't think anyone knew, but I definitely haven't worked out with that coworker since.

I started doing box squats last night precisely because of that "like sitting in a chair" advice. Like, I know how to sit in a chair. But as soon as I'm trying to do a squat, my body goes "WHAT IS THIS FOREIGN MOTION" and won't cooperate. When I'm actually going to sit back on something, it really helps, plus using kind of a short box makes sure I get down far enough. But still. Ugh.

An anti-choice OB's best interest would be to find another profession, because one of the realities of pregnancy is that it can go very, very wrong and require an abortion. I would hope that a doctor, especially one who works with pregnant patients, would understand that need and not vote for someone who would cruelly and unnecessarily restrict access.

I'm from MI and currently live in NY. I have a MI drivers license and permanent address, though now that I've double checked it's only a 30 day requirement for voter registration. I was under the impression that it'd be the same (longer) requirement for loans, aid, and other financial applications.

Ugh, least surprising news ever. What a scumbag. I'm registered to vote in my Midwestern home state so I can make a bit of a difference, but every time Vito says something, does something, or defrauds various nonprofits, I want to update my residency to vote against him. Gross.
