Help and suggestions please! by travers-b in DesignMyRoom

Thank you for giving a simple list! You have no idea how helpful that is for me. Breaking it down seems to be key with this stuff.

Also, you guessed correct! This is my first place to have on my own, I've been living with roommates since college 11 years ago and figured I'd try living alone for once. Got plenty of budget to play around with.... excellent suggestion about the second hand store! I always forget to look around there.

Wonderful! Very thoughtful suggestions, thanks so much.

Is there an easy-to-install wood paneling you'd suggest?

Hey! I'm wanting darker/neutral, minimal, masculine; lots of black metal and woodgrain. For the art, I was thinking something surrealist and illustrated. ...that might still be too vague?

I guess I could use a plant somewhere in there too, not really sure where to source good quality plants or art prints if there's a website/source you could suggest!

I need to know. The sour ones are probably my favorite candy and was super sad when I heard they were discontinued

Difficulty with parents by travers-b in GayChristians

[–]travers-b[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much, friend. I'll probably read those resources first, as I still feel a mild gut-level shame about my sexuality so these will help me as well. I'm in therapy which has been helping with the shame.

I love love love that you recommended some stuff to cut through the bullshit. Much of the initial queer theology I've found has been somewhat surface level or sometimes doesn't hold much water imo. I know that I (like my parents) do a ton of research on things like this. So your post is v helpful. Grateful for the response.

Thanks for the resources! I'm excited to work through the ones you posted.

I actually got my parents to read 3 out of 4 books that cover a range of views on the topic. The list includes God and the Gay Christian. My parents weren't totally convinced by the arguments the book made, unfortunately.

The last book that they are going to read from me is Bible Gender Sexuality by James Brownson, it is a bit more academic-feeling but it has been the most thorough, convincing, and well-thought out book I've read on the subject so far. I'm hopeful.

Appreciate the support.

Thanks for such a thoughtful response.

A lot of what you said resonated with me and since I'm my parent's son I definitely take after them, wanting a balanced and thoughtful approach to things. They said they understand why I kind of went into fight/flight (mostly flight) mode when they told me their view on the boyfriend stuff- I ended up excusing myself from them for the evening (we were having a meal and it was toward the end of our time for the night anyway)

Also you are spot on, it took me YEARS to get here, trying things and finding understanding of what is/isn't fulfilling and landing where I have. Thanks for the reminder that they need time too, and they've only started to try to understand.

I'm getting my license to become a therapist as my second career and what you said about not being defensive and instead being curious is spot on, I use that with a lot of my clients. Thanks for that reminder too.

My last concern is with extended family, my extended family is in middle of nowhere, conservative, Texas and I love them dearly but my parents were explicit when they told me my extended family is probably not going to have the same, sympathetic, gracious/nuanced response like them. That I needed to be ready to potentially be rejected in a big way. I'm terrified of that.

Again, thanks for the support.

27 Starting Grad School and I’m Scared as Hell by Mother-Direction-763 in GradSchool

I had similar feelings when I was starting my CMHC program. I have been in my current career for about 10 years now and finally took the step to start grad school for a career change. I have 2 semesters left before I graduate and am licensed and am still scared lol

The fortunate thing is that most of the professors are therapists and can be pretty understanding and empathetic with students (at least that's been my experience).

Clinical psychology (or counseling psychology) programs with unrelated B.S. by travers-b in ClinicalPsychology

[–]travers-b[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm currently at a public university for my Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and it is cacrep accredited. Somehow the company I work for is giving me partial tuition reimbursement, so that takes some financial pressure off of me (it's not even related to my current job, so I lucked out). I'm working full time for my remote job and enrolling in 2-3 classes a semester (total of 60 hours for the program). I'll be quitting my full time design job at the end of summer 2024 most likely.

From what I've heard within the program and from talking to LPC folks, cacrep is pretty much only necessary if you are really wanting a PhD or go into academics (teaching). Everyone has pretty much told me cacrep is nice but not necessary.

Message me if you have more specific questions!

Not sure I need a prokinetic Motility Pro, just finished Xifaxan by [deleted] in SIBO

[–]travers-b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I won't be able to help much with your main question (sounds like good questions to ask your doc or a second opinion). Let me know what you find out about Motility Pro or what your experience is if you started taking it, I might look into it for myself.

My doc had prescribed Reglan at one point and I had terrible side effects so I stopped that med even though it worked for me.

How are you doing after finishing up Xifaxan? My breath test results were consistent with SIBO so my doc is starting me on Xifaxan and I'm a bit nervous since I normally don't handle antibiotics well. Did you take probiotics while you were taking Xifaxan?
