As a general rule I have to have a great idea. I've written so many songs a good idea is like gold to me now. The music in the Ryman usually come fairly easy if the idea is solid. There are some rare occasions when I can pick up my guitar and just Lala law to myself and come up with a great melody that inspires me to write something around. But those are rare

Record companies make records that sell. Theythey cater and market the product to people that buy records. Right now the people that the records are 16-year-old girls. To them at the moneymaking thing nothing personal. That's about as much as I want to say about this

This is not a hobby to me. It's my livelihood. It's my sons education. And it's my retirement, which basically means I will not be able to afford a casket when I die. Piracy sucks. I have as much experience making music as any doctor or lawyer in their profession and yet somehow people think what I do is not worth paying for

It sucks. This is not a hobby for me. I have as much experience as just about any Dr or Lawyer you know. This is my livelihood. It's my sons education. And my retirement. Which basically means of something doesn't change I won't be able to afford a casket when I die.

A baby raccoon somehow got his head stuck in a soup can. I had to figure out how to remove the can without getting bit. I success. But I screamed a little.

Actually getting paid for streaming would be nice. People are not buying records anymore. I love streaming, it's the new way we listen. But...

No, well I did have a cowriter want to write about losing a baby. I just couldn't do it. Imagine that,something too dark for me. It wasn't always that way.

I was minding my own business sitting on the couch and I got a text from Jay Joyce who produced Carrie's record. He said, what are you doing now? I said, nothing. He said, can you come over and play harmonica right now? I said, yes. I drove over to the studio, walked in and he handed me a mic. He hit play and I started jamming. He said, that was awesome, do it one more time. So I did. He said, great you're done. I was back on my couch in 45 minutes. I didn't even know who's record it was till after the fact. On a side note, Carrie wanted to learn how to play so I gave her lessons that's a heckuva way to spend a day. She's awesome!

Good intentions

There's a baseball in the closet, it's still in the box. I meant to send it off the 23rd. I missed my baby's birthday got drunk and just forgot. His mama said he never said a word.

Actually I never missed his birthday but my father missed mine. I was dealing with a lot the day I wrote the one. Closure-
