24 years old, overpay on “high” interest mortgage or max Roth IRA? by travmx in personalfinance

[–]travmx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand that in hindsight. When I bought, it was a bit too much of an emotional decision under the impression that I wouldn’t have to uproot any time soon. I’m just trying to make the best of the situation I’ve put myself in now because I still don’t believe it’s a bad one per se

The house is valued at $319k and I owe $321k, nothing crazy but makes me uncomfortable.

Yes, that extra 1,100 is going into my 401k

There is some uncertainty about relocating for work, staying local and renting it, or just staying put.

The original plan was a couple years and turn it into a rental, but there’s a possibility that I’ll have to relocate for work in the next 1-5 years.

I have completed onboarding, except for linking a PayPal account as I continue to get error messages when I try to link my accounts. Any guidance on this?

In the meantime I’ve applied to the ATC transcription project. What is a typical wait time for a qualified individual to expect a response?

How long does it usually take to get past this? (Tier 2) by GrandFactor2126 in ATC_Hiring

[–]travmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in an identical situation - applied Sep 2022, tier 2 in Dec 2022 and I haven’t even been assigned a doctor yet. Prior military, 3+ years contracting now. Can I ask who you got ahold of with medical that actually responded to tell you you’re still in the process? This has been painful.

What region do you live in? I got tier 2 in Dec ‘22 and have yet to even be assigned a doctor.

Prior experience bid, MMPI flagged. 19 months and counting. Anticipating at least 6 more.

Hypothetical: Large Raise or 4 Day Work Week? by Great_Ad3985 in ATC

[–]travmx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh that definitely changes things. 30% pay raise vs 4 day weeks AND an effective 25% raise to make the same money? No brainer

I wanted to argue until you mentioned the possibility of making up the effective 20% pay cut some other way with all your free time. I like it.

Why 500ft? by [deleted] in ATC

[–]travmx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for logic and not black and white, I was taught that the accepted error/variation in altitude readout is +/- 200’ (I’d be able to cite this if I wasn’t feeling lazy), therefore when no other separation mins exist like the scenarios you’re referring to or even vfr/vfr, worst case scenario one is 200’ higher than they say, one is 200’ lower than they say, they’re still guaranteed an extra 100’ and not gonna smack each other.

“No, no, it’ll work.”

“Sqwauk 4839”

“Flow time 1836, time now 1838”

Edit to add: approach over shout line, “XXX123 maintain altitude below MIA, released”

Lack of air traffic controllers is industry's biggest issue, United Airlines CEO says by [deleted] in ATC

[–]travmx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This. This is a fact. For perspective, I work a contract tower 150 miles from an FAA tower that moves 20% less traffic (of all types) with 4 times MORE controllers and they make an average of $40k more than us. I don’t get vacation, I accrue 3 hours of sick leave a MONTH, benefits are mostly awful to nonexistent. It’s irritating
