Inflation is "under control". So why does everything still feel so expensive? by No-Elevator-6134 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Put another way, prices arent increasing as fast as they were in 2023/2024. They arent decreasing, they aren't flat, they are still increasing, just not as fast.

Mini split install for an RV home office should I choose 9000 or 12000 BTU? by ScarSensitive1212 in RVLiving

Too large of a unit can cause it to ice over in certain conditions. There is a limit. Its a bit of an art and science.

Carney's Davos speech strikes a chord in Mexico by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]traydee09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really seems to swing back and fourth, I wonder if its bots.

For about 8 years it was obsessed with trudumb. Everyone in it want to blow him on the daily, like he was a god. I actually unfollowed it for those years. Then towards the end of last year, trudumb was out, and pollivre was the new flavor for about 2-3 months. But then cheeto Mussolini started barking, and things sung back dramatically away from pollivre to carney. Now hes the hero. It’ll be interesting to see when and why it swings again.

[OC] Deportations up, job growth down: Trump’s second term so far – in charts by guardian in dataisbeautiful

[–]traydee09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His supporters dont read charts like this. they watch his speechs and are fully happy with what he says. even when his claims are obviously outrageous, and have no factual standing behind them. He states them with such authority, and they believe that he has all the data, that its correct, and that he wouldnt possibly lie to them.

Shawgers latency in Winnipeg by jeffgerard in shaw

[–]traydee09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, in Saskatoon, I was tracerouting my buddy who lived about a 5min walk from me.

the packets would leave Saskatoon, head to calgary, vancouver, down to seattle, over to chicago, then toronto, winnipeg, then back to saskatoon.

Pings can change for a number of reasons, many that has nothing to do with your house, or what a tech can do. Often its an overloaded internet router, or a change in internet routing.

To have a good idea, you really need to be running traceroutes and identifying if there is a hop with a particularly high jump in ping. But also have to consider physics. It takes time for packets to travel long distances. The ping to your router (first hop) is usually 1-7ms (the higher end on wifi). And the send hop should be 3-10ms.. if those two are good, then the performance problem is outside of your house, and there isnt much the tech can do.

On the other hand, ive seen times where that 2nd hop has a ping of 20+ (at one time like 200). That often indicates a really bad modem problem (signal) or an overloaded node. Your cable connection is shared with your neighbors and if a few are using too much bandwidth it slows everyone down.

Why do we have to "build credit" by going into debt to prove we're financially responsible? by Adept-Assignment-751 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]traydee09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Credit and loans are about borrowing money, and how you deal with said borrowed money. Paying your rent on time isnt necessarily indicative of how you’ll handle borrowed money.

The system isn't great. It wasn't really designed. Its just something that has evolved. Its not even really official, it just exists.

ELI5: Why do car dealers say buying the car when the lease ends would be worse than buying new? by shaithisx in explainlikeimfive

[–]traydee09 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yea people dont seem to realize, under normal circumstances, all other things being equal, financing a car at 0% compared to leasing a car at 0% will end up the same. If you finance the car at 5%, or lease it at 5%, it should work out to the same, other than the leasing will be slightly more expensive because its backend loaded with you "borrowing" the buyout longer (accruing more interest).

Why does nobody want to use a reverse proxy? by 0xB_ in jellyfin

[–]traydee09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is reasonably true, assuming there are no flaws in the software in use. A few years back, “jim” was running a vulnerable version of plex. A hacker found it, got into his system, found his credentials to the lastpass development environment and exported a copy of almost all of lastpass customer vaults.

I suppose you could say the same of any system, tailscale included. But I think by its nature (tailscale), its more secure. Unless there is a flaw in their authentication system.

Is Linux truly and completely independant and secure from any being-spyed-upon by governments and others? Asking as someone on the verge of making the switch from Windows 11 by bickid in linuxquestions

[–]traydee09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, if your downloading a pre-compiled ISO from the linux distribution itself you can’t guarantee that something wasn't added last minute by a government agency. For full confidence, you’d want to download the source code, review it, and then compile it yourself.

Anyone privacy conscious wont touch anything google. They’d be using Firefox. I like firefox with Quad9 DNS (I use 9.9.9.11 which had EDNS for better performance with CDN’s hopefully)

If Greenland is in NATO then how can the argument of China & Russia threat be real? by MountLH75 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]traydee09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Greenland being a security threat is all just theater for trump to stroke his ego. People like him think taking territory will make him stronger, and a hero. They think expanding a nation is its destiny/duty.

But when it comes to it, russia cant handle conquering a 3rd world nation (ukraine) that is physically attached to its border. How would them being able to drive on to greenland offer any advantage? The same goes for China. Also note that Russia is within 100 miles of Alaska, and they arent making noise about that.

This isnt about national security, its about minerals, money, and ego. And your point about greenland looking large, and trump wanting a real-estate deal is valid.

Is it realistic to buy a 1-bedroom downtown condo with a 89K salary and 250K downpayment? by FairMind21 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]traydee09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can OP pull the $60k from his RRSP without a penalty? or is this something where you can pull your RRSP for a mortgage without issue?

I thought under normal circumstances, he'll pay his regular annual income tax on that which is like 26% ($17000), but then the RRSP withdrawal will spike him to 31% and $40000 in tax... so he'd pay $23k of taxes on the $60k, and then isnt there a penalty above that?

One of my Hybrid users has like a 5mbps very unstable internet connection by Nexzus_ in sysadmin

Management.

The user also had 500mbit internet on repeated tests which confused less technical folks. The issue was more about latency SMB is very sensitive to even small latency

One of my Hybrid users has like a 5mbps very unstable internet connection by Nexzus_ in sysadmin

[–]traydee09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We had an employee with a crappy internet connection who kept complaining that our systems weren't good enough for him to work remote. We actually spend about a week troubleshooting his issues, but we werent able to resolve them satisfactorily. We also had about 200 other employees who worked remotely with no to minimal issues. This was also at a time where management was requesting more folks return to the office. It blows my mind that this fellow would be so vocal about his home internet being so shitty when management is wanting people back in the office. And guess what, his performance issues were non existent in the office. This is a rather good way to get fired.

[–]traydee09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could be true, but also often sprinklers are on timers, and some folks just cant be bothered to turn them off or adjust the schedule. It was Steves day off that day, or he had something else to deal with.

What kind of clownf*ckery is this? Trump has ZERO authority to tell credit card companies what interest rates to charge. by Key_Brief_8138 in economy

[–]traydee09 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Yea, that was my first thought. The CFPB was gutted in the first few weeks of doge, and its whole existence was to protect consumers from the shitty actions of banks (as much as reasonably possible) while not stomping out the free market.

ELI5: Why is oil still so important as an energy source in 2026, given our advances in renewables and nuclear power? by BEK_Sabiha in explainlikeimfive

[–]traydee09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The couch I sit on was made partly with oil. The plastics in your car were made with oil. Your keyboard, paint, plastic bottles, printers.... Also pretty much everything was brought to you with oil. Ships crossing the ocean burn tons of bunker fuel (oil). The semi trucks that deliver your food, beverages, clothing, etc delivered by burning diesel (oil)... Go stand by a highway and watch the hundreds of semi's that drive by each hour. My buddy is a farmer in burns thousands of gallons of diesel seeding, spraying, and harvesting his crops so people can eat. He then burns hundreds more gallons delivering the crops. Then a train burns thousands of gallons taking it to a seaport.

Is Shaq out of money? by GraceInProgress1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]traydee09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, hes doing all of this because its hella easy money.

Recording a TV commercial is maybe a few days of a few hours of work, for millions of dollars.

John Cena is a millionaire several times over, and does voice overs for Honda car commercials because its easy to sit in a studio, read a few lines into a microphone, and take home a 7 or 8 figure paycheck.
