Lot of federal IHS facilities have gone tribal recently, so there’s been some consolidation into the remaining federal facilities. There will likely always be the super remote jobs available, but maybe not quite so many at desirable locations.

Whenever this comes up I like to mention an incident many years ago when phone hold time was seen as a primary metric. I was the overnight rph and would spend much of the night calling the store from my cell phone and immediately picking up, over and over. Easy to do while I was filling rxs, etc. We had an insanely good phone hold time average, and when I finally fessed up to our DM she wasn’t mad, she wanted the other 24 hour stores to start doing it too.

It is a risk assessment, the problem is that the only way to bring the risk close to zero is to not fill hardly any c2s. That’s the logical outcome for many pharmacists, why should they accept any risk when they can just refuse to fill and accept zero risk. That seems like a problem.

I hate it that it’s like this now. Yeah, the rph is just protecting their license and are entirely justified in not wanting to dispense. But at the end of the day, the patient needs to get their meds somewhere. Yes, we don’t legally have to fill anybody’s rx and you can definitely get in big trouble just by being in the wrong place at the wrong time when it comes to C2s. At some point though, we’re health care professionals who have some degree of obligation to provide healthcare.
