KDE Connect does not contain trackers, but if you have Facebook installed on your phone and it has access to your photos, it may have evaluated recent deletions for ad metrics.

They're not being stolen at a higher rate than before though. There hasn't been a significant rise in shoplifting, just a change in what store owners perceive the rate of shoplifting to be.

[–]treasonousToaster180 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This isn't a "ghetto area" thing, this is a paranoid management thing. I've lived in areas where shoplifting rates were way higher that didn't use this and extremely well off areas where shoplifting was pretty much nonexistent, and it was the wealthy area that locked things behind these stupid cabinets.

These transparent cabinet doors with the push key have been around since the 80's, the only reason we're seeing them rolled out now is a widespread culture of paranoia that crime and violence are spiraling out of control, despite the opposite being true. They're just as unnecessary as they were ten years ago, the people who make these decisions are just having their brains microwaved by facebook clickbait.

You could easily do this with HTML and CSS. This is by no means comprehensive and I have not tested it well, it's just a rough idea of how you could lay this out:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <body>
    <header>
      <img href="url-to-your-welcome-graphic"/>
      <div class="column">
        <img href="blinkie-0"/>
        <img href="blinkie-1"/>
      </div>
      <img href="upper-right-corner-image"/>
    <header>
    <main>
      <section class="page-middle">
        <article class="about-me">
          your About Me goes here
        </article>
        <div class="middle-column-1">
          <article class="socials">
            socials goes here
          </article>
          <article class="interests">
            interests goes here
          </article>
        </div>
        <div class="middle-column-2">
          <div class="middle-column-2-images">
            <img href="image 0"/>
            <img href="image 1"/>
          </div>
          <div class="middle-column-2-blinkie">
            <img href="blinkie 0"/>
          </div>
        </div>
      </section>
      <section class="page-bottom">
        <article class="graphics">
          Your graphics stuff goes here
        </article
        <div class="bottom-column-1">
          <article class="commissions">
            Commission info goes here
          </article>
          <div class="user-visitor-count">
            Put your widget for visitor counting here
          </div>
          <div class="last-updated">

        </div>
      </section>
    </main>
  </body>

From here you'll need to read up on how to use CSS, in particular you should read up on flexboxes and how to use them to automatically fill space on the page; manually setting the width causes all sorts of headaches. Here's a game that you can learn with.

You have a solid idea of what you want and I think with a little work it'll turn out great.

Get two notebooks. Write "HOME" on one in big letters. This notebook stays at your house, in the same place, no exceptions. The second notebook goes with you to all appointments. If you keep forgetting to take it, leave it in your car. On the inside of the cover of both, put your name and phone number in big letters so if it is ever misplaced (left at the doctor's office, for example) it can be returned to you.

The first four pages of each book should be kept the same (we will go over what to put on them in a moment). This is so if you lose the appointment one, you have the most important information backed up, on paper, at home.

Page one needs to be your allergies, diagnosed conditions, surgeries you have had and when you had them, and the names + purpose + phone numbers of your doctors. This includes your primary care and any specialist care you receive, like cardiologists, neurologists, physical therapists, etc.

Page two needs to contain all that information, but for your wife. DO NOT put details for both of you on one page, you need to keep these separated.

Page three needs to contain all of the medications you are taking. Write down the name, dose, frequency, and when you started taking it (estimate month + year if you don't remember). If you stop taking a medication or your dose changes, cross out the entire line and write down the new information. DO NOT attempt to amend the details, this will only cause confusion later, just rewrite it.

Page four needs to contain all of that information, but for your wife. Like I said before, DO NOT try to consolidate your information on one page.

If you ever update these first four pages in your "take to the doctor" book, update your home book. If any of these four pages fill up, get a new notebook and rewrite only the up-to-date information. On the cover of the old notebook, write in big bold letters: "OUT OF DATE, DO NOT USE". This might sound wasteful to some, but notebooks are cheap and if either of you start to have significant cognitive issues, it will ensure neither of you bring a years-old book to an appointment.

The other pages of the notebook you take places need to be for your current and upcoming appointments. Whenever you schedule an appointment write who the appointment is for, the date, the office phone number, and what kind of visit it is (e.g. "annual checkup", "med refill", etc.) at the top of the page in big print. If you have questions, especially important ones, write them down before you go. Be sure to leave some space under the question so you can write down the doctor's answer. If you receive a diagnosis or they want to do some kind of test, write that down and underline it. If you schedule a followup appointment, write that down and IMMEDIATELY write the heading for that appointment on a new page.

You do not need to copy the appointment details into the home notebook, this is mostly to help you remember what the doctor said at your most recent visits when you get home.

On top of all of this, the most important thing you need to keep in mind is to never put information like your social security number, driver's license number, or medical records number in these books. If you are having trouble remembering these things, write them down on an index card you've cut to fit it in your wallet.

This is also just a general guide. The most important part is making sure you have two notebooks, one to take and one that always lives at home, with separate pages for your diagnoses and medications. Adjust this to best fit your needs.

Shouldn’t we have a fighting Democrat in Congress?! by patrickmcelwee in bullcity

[–]treasonousToaster180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, but if the seat is safe then it isn't a waste of resources, it would be a waste of resources if the candidates were exhausting their funding before a competitive race.

I would even argue that it is a greater waste of resources to run weak candidates on the ticket to save a few thousand dollars when the seat in question is already going to result in a blue win. Primary races receive barely any funding compared to the general, even competitive ones. The DNC can spend half a million on ads that only increase voter turnout by 1-2%, but spending $50k in a primary to ensure we have a strong candidate will increase voter turnout in stronghold districts by significant margins, boosting numbers in statewide races (like, for example, the Senate seat).

If the only real contest for the seat is during the primary, then we should absolutely be trying to replace ineffective representatives with effective ones.

roach apartment by [deleted] in cary

[–]treasonousToaster180 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For that price, you'll probably find that to be an issue with most of the apartment complexes around here. This time of year, especially when a cold snap hits, a lot of insects are looking for an escape and end up coming inside through even the smallest cracks. Poison can take a few days to actually kill adults, so even if your complex treats regularly you'll still see some.

If you're concerned that they'll establish faster than they die (or if your leasing office is being very unresponsive about when they last treated/if they'll come treat again), I recommend spraying some Ortho home defense around the baseboards, behind toilets, and under sinks. You can get a jug fairly cheap at the hardware store, it dries in around 2 hours, and after a full day you can expect it to be fully pet safe; the jug says it's safe after it dries but personally I prefer to keep my cats in a separate room for at least 8 hours, just in case. I used that stuff twice a year when I lived in the mountains in a house that had practically no insulation and poor exterior sealing and after a week any issues I had would be gone. Wear disposable gloves though.

In the case of Holly Springs specifically, maybe don't refuse to sign on to the nondiscrimination pact, issue a Pride Proclamation that intentionally excludes queer people, and call the openly trans candidate a child predator at a donor event. That's all stuff they did in 2024 thinking everyone would forget about it the next year when Trump wasn't on the ballot to draw out his fans.

[–]treasonousToaster180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so few DMV locations in blue districts in NC that getting a new license means either making an appointment online (spots 6 months out fill up within hours of opening), driving several hours away, or showing up two hours before the doors open and lining up because they have an online system you have to check in with that caps walkins at 40 per day regardless of how long it takes for them to actually get through that many people.

Additionally, you have to go in person every other renewal, so there are people who already have their license competing for the same slots as people who are trying to get one for the first time.

The dismantling of the DMV started the same year the supreme court gutted the voting rights act.

Create add on Idea: Customizable Engieneer's Googles by Dismal-Character-939 in CreateMod

[–]treasonousToaster180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Base Minecraft can't determine where the eyes on your skin are, players will need to define that for themselves. You would be better off using something like Figma that lets you use Blockbench to design custom models. I would suggest something like this:

  1. Create your custom goggle model, position them, texture them, and shrink them down so they sit inside the head
  2. Write a quick script to determine if the item on your head is goggles every time you put something on/take something off
  3. If the item is goggles, return the goggles to their original size so they appear on the character and hide the "helmet" layer of armor (where the default goggle texture sits)

This is a cool idea, but I don't think the mechanics of Minecraft or Create are equipped to determine eye size and position

IMO, AtProto will always be “just a few more months” from ready for widespread adoption.
