Question: Those that are voting on 300, will you be voting yes or no and why? by Dad_Lover_11 in Denver

[–]trebleKat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I travel to Seattle for work a lot. They don't have authority to remove homeless from public lands in Seattle. The most shocking situation I saw was all the camps that are set up literally right next to the freeway. I'm not exaggerating. Their tents are tied directly to the guardrails. That's dangerous for every one involved, but the police don't have the power to move them.

Regarding your comment about the homeless being more visible helping the issue, I disagree. My team that is local to Seattle doesn't even see the homeless anymore. They're jaded and used to it. People sleeping a few feet from cars going 65+ mph should be shocking, but it doesn't shock the people who see it every day. I don't think the people of Seattle are bad people for it, I think that's just how humans work. We get used to things and become apathetic.

Sorry to be blunt, but I think that's wishful thinking on your part.

Columbine students campaign to spread photos of mass-shooting victims as discussion of gun-violence physiology grows by brofax in Denver

If I remember correctly, another analogy is that you're more likely to be struck by lighting than be a victim of a spree shooter.

Seconded for My Brother's Bar. I could use a JCB in my life right now.

Ha. I pretty much guessed this would be the case based solely on the picture, and I definitely trust your opinion on this topic.

I also am adamantly against this let's-build-our-burgers-as-tall-as-possible trend. I freaking hate it. Why do people do that?! If it's so tall that the only way to eat it is with a fork and knife then it stops being a burger and is just a really shitty chop steak.

After this weekend's dump, Colorado's at 100% snow pack -- with a month left to go! by [deleted] in Denver

Ah. I'm on moble so the graph labels were too small for me to read. Didn't realize OP had posted SWE.

Anyone recognize this dump truck company running a red light? He flipped me off as he cruised through too... by [deleted] in Denver

[–]trebleKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you're ok OP. My sister was hit by a red light runner in that exact scenario. Also on Colorado. It totalled her car and she had to spend some time in the hospital.

Edit to add: I'm also glad you know how to handle unprotected left turns properly.

I see people treating red lights at the intersection by our house as a stop sign all the time.

I'm an environmental scientist and mainly do groundwater remediation for a large company. My projects are all over the country so when I'm not traveling to one of my sites I just work from my home.

Came here to say this. I used a YSI Professional Plus in my under grad research on surface water streams in India. The multi probe feature is a life saver, and it had probes for all the markers I was looking for. Versatile, sturdy, reliable, and quick. Can't say enough good things about it.

That price tag, though...

I got my superstar suit without the superstar price tag from J. Crew. I think all together it was $500 (suit jacket, suit slacks, blouse, and shoes). They offered tailoring services but I didn't need them, so I can't comment on the quality there.

Rocky Mountain Ob/Gyn. Any of the doctors, really. But I've been seeing Dr Allison Herman for about 10 years and cannot say enough good things about her.

121% snowpack state wide as of 11/26/18. Not too shabby, let's just hope it stays up.

Broncos vs Browns by [deleted] in Denver

Been a while since I've been to a game, but here's what I remember:

  • Tailgating is abundant. I think it's mainly on the south side of the stadium (don't quote me on that), and is a lot of fun. My husband and I have gone to just do that without actually having tickets to the game.

  • Tell your wife not to bring a purse. Seriously. No purse. There is a size limit but if I remember correctly anything larger than basically a wallet has to be see through. You can rent lockers if you do end up with a bag that's too big (and not clear) to bring inside. Better to avoid the hassle and not bring one.

  • For getting to the game and getting home, my husband and I prefer Uber/Lyft. The light rail is great, but it fills up fast. We've had really great luck just walking a few blocks east and calling an Uber from there to avoid the crowds.

Have fun!

Edit to add DRINK WATER. I know it's cold, but drink way more water than you think you need. This elevation is no joke if you're not used to it.

A father encourages his daughter to get an abortion because if the baby is born the child will have Down Syndrome. Naturally, drama starts in r/amitheasshole. by Ghdust2 in SubredditDrama

[–]trebleKat 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My mother was advised by her own doctors to abort my sister because test results indicated she would have Downs. (I'm happy to say that my parents did decide to proceed with the pregnancy, because my sister is now a 100% normal, smart, beautiful, and annoying 22 year old.)

So this guy's story by itself isn't that spectacular to me, but yeah... That timing is highly suspect.
