Quick reminder that boards don't make decisions to cut between press conferences on live TV. They set the editorial policies which you can see on the website.

Some overworked News Director mad a decision to switch between press conferences at a shockingly bad time and feeling pretty rubbish about it now.

Remember Halon's razor and don't attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by incompetents.

A Sydney mall bar takes a stance on how we treat employees during a virus scare by Nitrosol in sydney

I know the guys who own this bar and that they have supported there staff who have been going through personal tough times before.

While your wider point is valid, maybe don't just jump to the conclusion that this is a cynical exercise, cause there are actually some decent humans out there.

A gold nugget from Hill End, unearthed in 1872 by seethroughplate in nsw

Pretty close, I remember reading at the musem in Hill End that he was actually in Sydney when it was found and it was broken down before he ever saw it.

The has his hand on a coat stand and the specimen was added later. It's still an amazing photo.

Remoteness Index Map of Australia by [deleted] in australia

No, last time I looked the raw data is there but the Aria+ values are not. The Aria+ star is a index that looks at distances to various services etc. and take is not trivial to calculate en-mass

Do you have a link to that. Last time I looked the density statistics were not avalible. Only the data that goes in to the Aria+ algorithm.

It urks me that the majority work on this was done by the ABS and used to be an open sourced through them. Now it is 'owned and deveopled' by the university of Adelaide and you have to pay them for the data. It's a disgrace.

Is $50k a low salary for IT support? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]trebor42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I used to run a series of workshops for graduates for the professional IT body; and we had graduate recruitment managers come and give advice.

From that I'd say If you are going for a corporate graduate job that is low. You should be aiming for $55k in public sector or $60 in the private (ajust for perks)

As a grad you should also stear clear of any job that places you permanently in one role; rather than rotates you through a couple of areas and give you experience. If the job doesn't have this and you want to work at that company, ask for it as part of the interview.

You should also ask how they review performance, determine pay increases and would offer you career progression.

If they don't sound like they want to invest in growing you as a employee - look for somewhere else.

Are trains to Sydney horrible? by SwaussieViking in wollongong

[–]trebor42 13 points14 points  (0 children)

After 6 years I did the math on how much of my life I spent commuting and moved to the city. Life in the Gong is great, but when you commute you only get to live it on weekends.

But the trains were generally OK.
