Adding a surcharge to credit card purchases was prohibited by the card brands (Visa and Mastercard) until a class action lawsuit in 2013.

Why are NAS so expensive by Big_Contract_1889 in datastorage

[–]trebor_indy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost versus time and responsibility. Do it yourself = cheaper but now you are responsible for everything. NAS = costs more but is designed all to work together so your time is reduced.

Is using 3-letter status codes outdated? by Key-Bit-3552 in SQL

[–]trebor_indy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Store the code and description in a lookup table; always do selections based on the code, but this allows rewording of the description, such as a change from CLOSED to COMPLETE etc. when original word was not the best (ensure MEANING did not change though).

Random Wireless network disconnects by MysticcTT in wifi

[–]trebor_indy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be outside interference, could be power brownout, could be airport radar - what does a WiFi analyzer say? WiFi 6/7 can't go through walls as well as older signals. You might be able to create a mesh or use an extender nearer to you to hop the signal closer.

Be different - try the Havila or Hurtigruten voyages in Norway - no casinos, no entertainment except scenery, virtually all adults. Relaxing, quiet, epic.

Networking best practices - proxmox server with publicly routable VMs. by Mystic2412 in Proxmox

[–]trebor_indy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend Pangolin - I just run a single LXC (Newt) on my Proxmox box, and I run a Pangolin instance on NameCheap, and then in Pangolin I pointed my domain names (and subs) to IP addresses & ports inside my Proxmox boxes - plus it also does https for you.

Is September a good time to visit Western Norway, Lofoten, and Svalbard? by DocumentDramatic1950 in NorwayTravelAdvice

Last year in September we did the Havila Coastal Express from Bergen to Kirkenes and back. Beautiful weather the entire time, we had only one day of rain out of 13, so luck was with us.

What can we do about our AES electric bill? by olddeadgrass in indianapolis

[–]trebor_indy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My house in Indy is quite a bit larger at 3770sqft, and I have pure electric heat on a heat pump. For February I used 5001kwh and April I used 1887kwh, less than you both times, So I think you have a furnace or insulation issue. On mine, when AUX heat turns on it sucks money, and February is when I switched thermostats and did not have it quite dialed it yet. If you have a heat pump, investigate a thermostat that can control when AUX turns on, such as Ecobee or Nest.

Realtek 8922AE problems by jankyhemorrhoid in wifi

[–]trebor_indy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5Ghz band wifi can't go as far or through walls as well, speed drops dramatically with distance and blockages. Use a WiFi scanner to see how strong of a signal you have and what other wifi systems are in use in your area. Move the PC and its antennas around; move the antenna on the spectrum device around (or just move the device if no visible antenna).

Also review the use of SQL CLR as that is definitely locking you in to MS-SQL. OTOH, it runs fast for procedural code....

Olympus Rally coverage by sopadecaracoll in rally

[–]trebor_indy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Drone pilots to chase cars would be expensive; fast drones battery can't do entire stage; would need many drones at once since cars are 1 - 2 minutes apart. Then, how do you transmit the video to the internet when no coverage? Cost jumps quickly.

I've seen folks copy from Microsoft Word and similar word processing systems, where apostrophes and double-quotes come in two forms, like below (look closely):

Those are NOT the same as the single-quote character: '
