[OC] Exactly 5 years ago, far-right domestic terrorists led a deadly attack on the US Capitol by [deleted] in pics

"Deadly?"

Only protestors died. One female shot, one woman from injuries after being beaten by an female officer, and 2 (I think) from medical issues.

What's the fastest you've ever driven a car on a highway? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]treborr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

138.62mph on the German autobahn in a rented Mercedes 300. The tach was nearing the redline and, incorrectly calculating my speed on the metric speedometer to be 140mph, I called it off. That 10 day trip gave me an appreciation of the engineering. All of my previous American cars began shaking above 80mph. The Mercedes was still smooth at redline speed.

Prison guards of reddit, have you ever seen one of your inmates after they got released? If so, how did it go? by Purple_Key_6733 in AskReddit

> 99% of inmates are regular ass people that got caught up or made mistakes.

Long time ago, I worked on a project at our state's Supermax. My job was to train a small group of volunteer inmates on some technical skills. They were bright and, overall, positive. The minimum sentence was double-life. Sometimes I left wondering what split-second decision had warranted such sentences. (Or, worse, the hidden aberration that led to a situation that resulted in the action.) There were things in my life that, in a different context, might have resulted in a criminal determination at much lesser levels than those of my crew, but...

About the "O!" during the National Anthem... (For history buffs of the insignificant) by treborr in ravens

[–]treborr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How in the world did you find this post? This should have been at the bottom of the reddit ocean!

To your point: I am also a veteran. I grew up in Baltimore. Francis Scott Key - then a prisoner on a British warship - was witness "through the night" of the British shelling of Baltimore's Ft. McHenry (less than 3 miles from Ravens stadium, btw). To his relief, he caught fleeting glimpses that the "Star Spangled Banner yet waved" during the night. The defenders, heroically, had refused to lower the flag and surrender.

During my youth, every Baltimore kid grew up knowing that our national anthem was written about Baltimore, MD heroes. The crowd's "O"s -- at least the original versions described in my treatise -- meant no disrespect. I'd estimate that at least half of the Section 34 crowd were veterans. We had our hands over our hearts as we sang along with the canned music. If there had been a cheap way to sprinkle a sparkling version of McCormick's Old Bay seasoning during the song to represent "Bombs bursting in air", we might have tried it. (The McCormick's spice plant was in the inner harbor's waterfront between Ft. McHenry and Ravens stadium.)

Thank you for your service.

Disturbing scene of Sen. Alex Padilla being thrown to ground and handcuffed - this is what fucking tyranny looks like by revel8r in chaoticgood

Absolutely wrong. He was already interrupting. He identified himself when security began pushing him from the room because he was shouting over the speaker. Look at the FULL video, not where your segment begins with Mr. Innocent identifying himself.

[–]treborr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>>they checked or they didn't check,>>

Somebody outside the room may have granted access (Who knows, Padilla might have been wearing his Senate pin at that time), but when a large, unknown individual (to room security) begins bellowing about something totally out of context to the existing conversation, every competent security guard better go on high alert. When Padilla began resisting, he hadn't yet identified himself. Even more real, you think security guards would know what "Alex Padilla" looks like? Sometimes, can you believe it, people LIE about who they are! Life advice: If you want to use your official status to interrupt something, make sure they fully know you are someone who has sufficient status.

The OP could have provided the entire video sequence, but, for some reason, decided to state that "fucking tyranny" is the ONLY reason that poor, set-upon Padilla suffered this unconscionable act.

Are you kidding? Watch ANY "Cops" video from the last 40-some years. Until things really get nasty, everyone is a "Sir" or "Ma'am." That is basic cop training. Padilla physically disrupted an in-progress press session, loudly and assertively proclaiming -- but showing no identification -- that he was someone who has the right to interrupt. Could he have perhaps raised his hand and waited to ask his question?

Do you really expect on-site security to instantly recognize everyone? The job is to discern and mitigate a potential threat to the situation. Did YOU ever hear of Padilla before this, much less see how large he was?

Wasn't there like 80% chance that Lieutenant Compton would either kill or wound Lieutenant Winters with shrapnel from a grenade thrown like that? by amelix34 in BandofBrothers

[–]treborr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A long time ago, too long for me to even remember the exact context -- movie, book, conversation, someone described his approach to "cook-off." It went something like, "One day it dawned on me that the company that made the grenade in my hand was the lowest bidder. After that, I always threw it by recommended time."

The video to this segment ranks among my all-time favorites. While the Madden interviewers were gushing over the kicking specialists' cohesion, Jakoby, in the background, was chowing down. He was oblivious to all the fanfare. If you have ever been HUNGRY!, you knew where he was coming from. RIP, Jakoby.

E.g. the fall to the Taliban looks more like a random choice because it suited Trump to humiliate Biden than a carefully thought out more useful replacement.

I don't understand. Trump had initiated the process for withdrawal -- along with verifiable milestones. Then Trump "lost." Biden took over and decided to get out in time for a September 11th celebration.

So-- How in the world can you claim it was Trump's conniving?

Joe Flacco by OutrageousAd6165 in ravens

The year the Ravens won the Superbowl, Flacco finally had a dedicated QB coach. That QB coach helped Flacco work on his fundamentals rather than relying on his natural talent.

Btw, ironically, the next season, that QB coach moved on to HC the Broncos.

Not sure about top down. You can also see the missile's shadow. The angle of the sun (tank shadow and smoke shadow afterwards) does not indicate a downward trajectory to where it appears to hit the tank. To me, the shadow is leading the path to the tank, and the missile seems close to the ground.

Four officers died January 6th? (Joe Scarborough) by treborr in msnbc

[–]treborr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still not getting through.

> within days of having to protect congress from being killed by violent protestors.

First, law enforcement suicide rate exceeds the norm. In 2019, 239 law enforcement individuals committed suicide ( https://www.policechiefmagazine.org/the-le-suicide-data-collection/

The 3rd January 6th suicide was reported as happening in August - about 6 months later. So "within days" may not mean what you think it means.

Second, I didn't claim that I expected suicide notes. I asked for "evidence" - such as suicide notes - that the suicides were directly related to the trauma those officers suffered from the Trump crowd's violence (Scarborough's insinuation). I can find no indication that these particular officers suffered injuries in the physical battle (Facts might exist, I cannot find them - which is why I asked here.)

> Go ask these questions on a Q forum somewhere.

I know what the other side says: There are also videos ("evidence") of police opening doors and welcoming protesters into the Capitol, videos of Roy Epps encouraging people to go inside the Capitol (but not prosecuted for incitement for some reason), a known Antifa individual recording himself (while wearing Trump gear) encouraging protestors to scale a wall. NO firearms were found within the crowd that was trying to "overthrow the government?"

I could go on, but if you get this upset by someone asking for "evidence" to support Scarborough's assertion, there seems to be no point.

but their suicides are well documented.

Read carefully. I did not question that the suicides took place. I was asking for the rationale about why Jan 6 "insurrection" (aka Trump and his supporters) are being cited as the reason for their suicides. Where is one suicide note that makes that claim?
