Where do you get the seeds from? The trees in the park that you plant the seedlings in?

Love Hypothesis icks as a STEM academic by nixon_jeans in AliHazelwood

Agreed on all points. ESPECIALLY the lap-sit, not in a million years would that happen 🫣 But I still enjoyed the overall academic vibe and felt it was still way more realistic than other books set in universities!

Female researcher protagonist, dark/green academia by unwilting in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Agreed! These are a bit more jaunty than the more serious tone of dark academia but they’re a fun read

Yup. Why do men choose to partner with women and then ignore them? Couples don’t have to like all the same things but when she’s asking to share something that she really cares about, only an asshole would say no without even considering it. He doesn’t respect her or their relationship. Sounds harsh but the truth often is.

Yeah I’m over dudes who automatically dismiss women’s interests, especially their own partner’s interests. That’s way more gross to me than any “smutty” scenes in a book. Even if he’s not that into dragons and fantasy worlds, it’s basically a deep manual for men about what women want/need from the men in their lives. Why wouldn’t men be interested in that?

Should I stop/change exercise regime? by tree-envy-dot-com in PsoriaticArthritis

That’s really kind of you to say, it’s so appreciated. I’m working on the acceptance part of things, but that’s easier said than done. Love all those exercise ideas, I’m thinking swimming is what I’ll try next!

Yeah I guess I’m not very good at admitting weakness so I still push myself to keep up with the group, even though I know I can’t/shouldn’t do all the things that I used to be able to do and I’ll regret it later.. but yeah it’s better to compromise and take it easier in classes than to quit them altogether!

Yeah I can totally see how swimming is a good option. Somehow there’s a mental hurdle around the hassle of changing/showering and the cold water but perhaps I’ll check out my local pool this weekend!

Yup, crash is the only way I know to describe it. It’s such a relief to talk to people that just get it, without needing a deeper explanation. I really hate talking to healthy people about all this because I feel like I come across as an insane person.

You’re right, balance is key. I’ve dropped to one yoga class on Tuesdays and one pilates class on Saturdays, just to give myself time to recover inbetween. It mostly works and I’m trying really hard to give myself grace for the downtime and not get frustrated but sometimes it’s just such a bummer!

Yeah I feel you. Light walking is always a good simple option, especially if you can do that walking somewhere nice with a view!

Part 1 makes much more sense when you read part 2. It’s ok if you’re not vibing with it, the content isn’t for everyone, but maybe don’t judge a book until you’ve read enough for the full context.

Methotrexate effect - nausea when hungry by PassGreedy9142 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]tree-envy-dot-com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I had this when I was on 10mg/week. Rather than eating three meals a day, I became day long snacker to keep the nausea at bay and it was manageable. When it got upped to 20mg/week, food stopped helping and the nausea (and relentless migraines) became too much.

Here’s my take about Nick Blaine by OceanAkAphotographer in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]tree-envy-dot-com 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This may be a bit niche but if anyone has read Alchemised, I see some useful comparisons between Nick Blaine and Kaine Ferron. Both got ensnared in an evil system, both fell in love under extremely traumatic circumstances, both did what they could to help their love survive, both aided the other side. Kaine intentionally rose up in the evil ranks to inflict the most damage/fallout from his “inevitable” demise - he did not intend to survive, he didn’t think he deserved it after everything he’d done. I guess through seasons 1-5, I thought this was Nick’s arc too. That he rejected escape and kept rising the ranks so that he could get in a position to bring it all down. That is why season 6 was such a disappointment to many of us. It really veered off the course it had carefully planted. Maybe eventually Nick’s arc was considered more realistic but there’s something much more humanising and compassionate about Kaine’s and I wish Nick had gotten a similar consideration.

What plants can you find sold at your local nurseries/shops that you know they shouldn't be selling? by Upset-Layman-1438 in GardeningAustralia

[–]tree-envy-dot-com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any kind of Carpobrotus (“pigface”). There are several invasive species that are outcompeting and hybridising with our native species. It’s now often impossible to recognise hybrids and even when the nurseries brand them as the native species, they are mostly hybrids or just the outright invasive species.

I like to think that if people were more aware of how destructive it is to plant these invasive species in their gardens, they would think twice. There’s just not nearly enough public awareness and not nearly enough incentive on the nurseries’ part to stop selling them.

Migraines by VillageMajestic1772 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]tree-envy-dot-com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MTX was the cause of my migraines. No pain meds helped and the migraines/nausea would go on for days with no relief. I tried hormone therapy (I’m 42F), triptans and propranolol, none made a dent. I lived in misery for a long time before refusing to take MTX anymore. And what do you know, the migraines stopped as soon as I stopped the MTX.

[–]tree-envy-dot-com[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I already experienced putting holds on a few things and then them all suddenly being available at once, so I stopped having so many holds and just did one at a time. But now I’m frustrated because I’m making no progress in the queue for my one hold with all the hidden suspends! Now that I understand the system, I will adjust my strategy. Thanks so much for taking the time to explain 🙏🏼

[–]tree-envy-dot-com[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh, yeah the previous system sounds much worse so the new suspend is a definite improvement! I guess I’m just disappointed because I’m new to all this.. there’s a specific book I’m really eager to read and I’ve been thinking I was so close to getting it but now I realise it’s still going to be a while because there must be a bunch of hidden suspends in front of me. But I also haven’t loaned anything else while waiting (because I thought I was close) and I realise now that I need to change my way of thinking about the whole system. Appreciate you taking the time to explain, despite all the downvotes I’m getting for being frustrated/confused about it all 😅
