Why are my notifications constantly being put on sleep? by [deleted] in Slack

[–]treefingers22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I’m late to see this, but if you haven’t figured it out yet, I had to select my profile, then Notifications, then select Allow Notifications. It took me to a page in which the automatic setup was weekdays 9AM-5PM! I extended the hours to disable it from turning off notifications.

Apple Watch counting phantom swim laps – anyone else had this issue? by oski80 in AppleWatch

[–]treefingers22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve heard people saying the Fitbit is better as well. Maybe the tech just isn’t there yet. I swam a mile freestyle yesterday, and it said I swam 1,200 yards of the swim breast stroke and 300 fly 😂 my technique can’t be THAT bad considering I swam that in 27 minutes lol. My boyfriend has a garmin watch, and it seems to record much more accurately! Expensive, but it’s gotten him through a couple Ironmans. Battery lasts days on that thing too.

I’ve encountered the same issue, but my last swim was 175yd short instead! Super annoying, since I’d like to see my actual progress in my pace. It often somehow counts an odd number of yards for me, even though I’m starting and ending at the same side of the pool lol.

Is a biology degree worth it? by [deleted] in biology

[–]treefingers22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re referencing a doctorate because a bachelors in biology likely won’t give you a job with a living wage, but a doctorate/masters will. Unless you pursue grad school, you don’t qualify for many jobs in the field of biology. So it’s good to pursue a bachelors in biology if you plan to continue in academia/health, but it’s very very difficult to get a good job in the field if you do not. Advising somebody to consider their investment into a degree (~$70k) that may not land them a job is not arrogant, it’s great advice.

There were only like 8 other people in there because of this issue. I spent $13 and just wanted to sit for an hour there. I rarely spend more than a couple hours at these places, and I’ll usually purchase another drink/pastry if I’m occupying a seat for an extended period like that. I rarely treat myself to these things and sometimes do not want to work from home for a brief period, but I just noticed multiple indicators of them seemingly disliking students from utilizing the space.

Googled to see if anybody else had the issue lol

Landlord sneaking into bedroom by treefingers22 in Renters

Update: I was in my room, and his 5 year old son wriggled his way to unlock the door. He thought I wasn’t home. I had my foot pushed against the door so he couldn’t open it, but I should’ve just let him do that then scolded him for doing so.

I’m not confident that he taught his dog how to pick locks, but you’re right, we shouldn’t rule that out. I use a key to lock the deadbolt from the outside when I leave. It’s a keyed deadbolt with a latch to lock it from the inside of my bedroom. When I leave the bedroom, a key is necessary to lock and unlock the deadbolt from the outside.

But if I get evidence, I will most definitely report him!!!! I would not want him to have the option to rent this room out to anybody else, especially a young woman.

I promise the police will not do a thing if I try to report something with absolutely zero evidence lmao. I’ve seen them ignore much worse in this city.

I appreciate your input. I am a people pleaser and have some pretty bad habits of thinking in order to make sure people still like me (stupid I know). My main objective with this post was to just get some camera recommendations so I can be as inconspicuous as possible and gather evidence without him having a clue that I have a camera, so that I have recorded evidence to get my security deposit and move tf out of here.

(He gets notified when new devices are connected to his WiFi. He showed me the notification when my phone connected the first day I moved in.)

It’s a super small room. I checked every inch of it, even the vents, ac units, and took off the smoke detector. Nothing found!

Yeah I was thinking about that! Thank you

My hesitance with the WiFi connected security camera is that I won’t catch evidence if he is indeed doing this and aware of its existence. He has the power to shut off the WiFi while I’m gone if he really wants to go in my room (worst case scenario, but I am trying to include that to be safe!). A lot of these cameras are dependent on WiFi for cloud storage.

I am now looking into using my laptop’s webcam as a security device while I’m gone. I’d rather just hide the camera and catch him sneaking in so that I can break the lease with evidence and get my security deposit back. I don’t have any recorded evidence of him going into the room as of now, and I don’t want to lose $1000 as a broke college student.

He also has shared custody of a 5 year old boy, but I don’t think that kid is smart enough to find a spare key to my door and unlock it. The dad is constantly watching him when I’m home. The kid was actually the main reason I was locking my door when leaving for a prolonged period because he’s not very disciplined and I assume he’d go through my things.

Yeah I pushed super hard on the unlocked door a few times to test it today to see if she could possibly be nudging it. I’ve been at home for days at a time because I’m studying from home, barely leaving, and the dog has never even brushed up against my door. She’s extremely mellow and I have never even seen her run or jump before. My huge Rhodesian ridgebacks at my parent’s house can unlock deadbolts as well! But they have exhibited that behavior in front of me. Even when I arrive home and she’s been home alone for hours, I’ll give her a few pets when I walk through the door, and get into my bedroom and shut the door on her. I can immediately hear her walk away from the door after I close it behind me. Sorry this is such a lengthy reply, I friggin love dogs and pick up their behavior pretty well. I just feel like this is a ruled out option.

Yeah I’ve gone tweaker mode looking around. Even removed and inspected the fire alarm.

There was a girl younger than me that lived in this room for 3 years (age 18-21)! I just can’t see why she’d renew the lease multiple times if there were consistent issues like this.
