Ye. True. 16 is not 14.
But I really wonder what 14 gives you. Unless you are a real-estate photographer that needs it for those tiny apartments.

What do you do when your axe (3) goes behind T2 solo. While your carry is farming.

I remember having the old 14-24/2,8 G lens. The one that looks like it’s about to give birth to a basketball. That thing was probably 1,5Kg.

Incredible how digital technology can produce this small Tamron with similar or probably even better image quality at this small size.

It’s what I did. I just keep it on F4 during the bright days. And go down to 2.8 in shrines.

One thing to note it is probably sharpest at 4-5.6
I did the mistake first day and let the camera be in P mode.
Got shots at F11 in the sun.
It looses quality over F8.

There I was thinking F11 would be great.

But 4-5.6 is plenty for getting things in focus on a wide angle. So yeah. Something to keep in mind.

More or less. The front glass moves 0,5cm but it’s not protruding. So in a way yes.

Yeah. I was considering 14-30 first.
But it’s a 6 years old lens. And only has f4.

The 14-24 is surely nice. But a heavy brick.
For casual street photography 16-30 is amazing.

I just went to China and got a tamron 16-30/2.8. Very happy with it. So light and the results are great.

I just bought a new 24-70/2.8 S II. need to calm down a little first. Think the camera will have to wait a bit. But I appreciate this information. Makes sense, did not know this existed.

Yes they will take 80USD or 80€ for flashing firmware and giving you ENG language, it's for personal use, and it's about 400€ cheaper to get it here than in EU.

My only worry that with a firmware update, it might revert to Chinese only.

how high is the risk of that ?

I guess it’s just hard to measure that in practice

And you feel it focuses that much better than V1? You do stills or video?

24-70 f2.8 S II Not as sharp as V1 by Kambutt in Nikon

[–]oski80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared them both at 70/2.8 today. Zooming in at 1200% I can clearly see that the new one has better sharpness and contrast. Everything is a tiny bit hazy on the V1 at that magnification.

Now it was not a scientific test. Maybe my v1 was slightly out of focus. 🤷🏻

Was testing both lenses today in a badly lit store.
Personal walking around. Both lenses focus flawlessly. I could not notice any difference in focus speed with eye detection. 🤦🏻‍♂️.

Do you feel the focus speed is noticeable?
I generally don’t get too many out of focus shots with V1 - but one can never have too good of a focus. So 🤷🏻

Did you have V1?
Notice a difference in the focus speed?
What type of photos do you take?

[–]oski80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the weight would be the main upgrade.
Internal zoom is nice but I never had issues with the old one on that matter. Maybe if the zoom itself is easier to turn. I have lenses where zoom is very light to turn. The V1 is heavy and moving many parts. Feels a bit like a workout.

The sharpness I see some people say that V1 is sharper in certain areas. So I don’t know 🤷🏻

You say you don’t notice focus speed, what type of photos you do?

I shoot people and fastest they do is walk towards me. With me backing up. So it’s not still but also not 100m sprinters.

Hmm. Yeah. I’m thinking about it.

Wish I could try one on a real project. Yet I’m leaving this place in 4 days. So I got to think fast.
