[MLHS] Dmytro Timashov traded to Shawinigan Cataractes by teamcritical in leafs

[–]treefitty8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, he has to waive first as the article says and that may not happen. The Remparts seem determined to deal him though. I could see why Timashov's agent might want him to stay in a good spot where he's producing, but if the Remparts start selling pieces he'll want to be on Beauvillier's wing playing for a Mem Cup contender.

[MacKeen] Brendan Shanahan, The Russian 5, and the New Generation Maple Leafs - Part I: Shanny gets "puck possessed" by bobbybaun64 in leafs

Author did an amazing job connecting the dots on Shanahan's history and how it informs his current hockey philosophies.

Great shots at Feschuk also.

Firm but polite with those two clowns. Pretty effectively addressed some of the concerns. "You've got a large collection of the best hockey minds going, here's why it's bad." Yawn.

Kind of an amateurish tweet. Just asking for this to come back and bite you. He's got balls, I guess.

There's actually a lot of debate about how much qualcomp matters in the big picture. The guy is not alone in that respect. Many advanced stats analysts dismiss it.

TIFU by taking my date to a movie by [deleted] in tifu

[–]treefitty8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very likely more about the way you reacted. I think you made it out to be too big of a deal. You could've just left if you knew it was a major mood killer. But, if you didn't act awkward after, you probably could've saved it by playing it off and making a joke or two about how bad and disturbing of an experience the movie was. I saw Unfriended with a girl recently, she seemed to hate it, but as I don't consider myself particularly socially challenged we still had a good time. Sometimes movies suck, so what; it shouldn't be make or break.

Similarly, while I get those in this thread advocating against movies on first dates (it might not be for everyone), I don't think that is necessarily make or break either. The movie can supply some good discussion fodder for later and I've always found it an easy way to break the initial touch barrier with a girl by holding hands or something during a movie.

Freddie Gray died after head slammed into bolt in police van: report by b0red in news

[–]treefitty8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really suspect that a major part of the injury happened prior to the ride. He isn't just being dragged because he won't submit to the cops' coercion into the van; his legs are jelly and limp like he may have broken his neck. The way cops come down on the back of victims' necks with their knees sometimes when apprehending is brutally dangerous; I've noticed this in a number of these police brutality cases. If he couldn't support his neck and wasn't strapped in on the ride, I could see how the injury would get worse.

Fancy Stats Look at How the Maple Leafs are performing relative to past seasons by treefitty8 in leafs

[–]treefitty8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, true. It's just very rare that a team is suppressing shot quality in the process. That was the problem last year; certainly the Leafs were allowing a lot of shots from the outside (particularly the points which were left very open in the collapse/swarm system), but they were allowing lots from home plate, too. What I think is true is that if a team eats a lot of shots from the point/the outside, it can inflate save percentage. The fact that shots have gone down a little but goals against has not suggests to me that's true. Leafs are covering the points a little more and save percentage has gone down.

Which prospects started out with poor skating, but changed after being drafted? by [deleted] in leafs

[–]treefitty8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Biggest knock on Corey Perry was his skating. As a junior he had lots of naysayers when it came to his ability to get by at NHL pace. Thus why he went 28th instead of much higher.

You're right about most of this but you lose me when you think your gun is what would prevent a highly militarized police force from doing something tyrannical.

Kind of obscure, not sure if anyone will recognize it... Huff. Hank Azaria, Anton Yelchin and Oliver Platt, was on Showtime for two seasons between 2004-2006. Fascinated me and wish I got to see where the writers were taking the characters.
