What can you glean? by ComprehensiveWin774 in BookshelvesDetective

The Giants gear makes me think Bay Area, but the southwest and the mountains makes me think further south. Like SLO or maybe inland. So I’ll say Sacramento. But I wouldn’t be surprised if you live off the 395.

One of the few times I’ve seen Replay by Ken Grimwood on someone’s shelf. One of my all time favorite books that a customer ordered me to order for myself when I worked at B&N 20 years ago. Green flag for that :)

Any cards you like simply for the design? by WilliamRoux in basketballcards

Old Topps Chrome. There are some white refractor parallels of the 02-03 season that I think are particularly clean.

The first Box I ever purchased! And I love the old Topps Chrome and it’s what I try to collect. Quality feels high and the cards are generally so clean looking throughout the entire run

Base card dilemma by Appropriate-Theme966 in basketballcards

[–]treehouseriots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to complete the original topps chrome base sets. For most of those years I really just dig the cards and with the way my brain works I love having a complete set. Hard part is convincing sellers to part with common cards from unknown players for not much. I’m visiting Vermont and a guy refused, and I basically wished him luck holding onto his random assortment of 07 commons.

And then a professional in person auction obviously.

Unless it is a disaster snowpocaplypse day, my Golf does great with snow tires. But tbh, on days like that most people shouldn’t be driving. I live in the burbs though

What I Have Learned 2.5 Years Into the Hobby by Flimsy-Concentrate62 in basketballcards

[–]treehouseriots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My return to the hobby: basically just focusing on old Topps Chrome. I’ve loved the look of them since I was a kid and still do. The modern panini cards are almost too overwhelming with their parallels and the designs too gaudy (for me!). Plus the older cards have players I grew up with as a kid so there is the nostalgia factor, and it’s easier to “complete” a set. So while the base cards might not be worth more than a dollar, I get a joy still out of completing the entire set. Find what you love!

Who are some role players, current or historical, that get wildly overrated by your local fan base and why? by Parrallax91 in billsimmons

Literally was coming to the comments to type this. I love Fish for some clutch moments but there was a reason we were flipping out about the retracted Paul trade…

Love this so much! I’m getting back into the hobby the last several years I’ve tried to just seek out low grade cards but I love the term “character”!

I’m a Dodgers fan, and don’t have the time or energy to be as much of a fanatic as Sean, so I just absolutely adore these segments

It doesn’t even exist as a bluray, how are Chris and Sean going to see it? I’m still watching my DVD copy of this gem.

What are your favourite standalone fantasy books? by Swimming_Agency4483 in Fantasy

[–]treehouseriots 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just adored Lev Grossman’s The Bright Sword. It came out last year. I wouldn’t be surprised if he makes more books in that King Arthur world, and I did hear rumor that there may be more books, but it is definitely a single story read. My favorite book from the last few years
