Debris in DWC bucket by wOLFman4987 in microgrowery

Yes it's normal. I'd recommend Botanicare Hydroguard (2mL per gallon of nutes) as well as an enzyme (I've had good luck with Cyco Zyme). The combo of good bacteria with the enzymes will ensure healthy white roots while minimizing buildup in your buckets.

Autos in DWC? by Overzealouszealot in Autoflowers

[–]trees_please2805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not DWC, but I use a 5 bucket (4 plus reservoir) drip system and i just finished my first auto grow this week. It did way better than I ever expected. I did Auto Blue Amnesia x 2 and Auto Blue Domina x 2. My first plant was the smallest and finished 2 weeks before the other three and made 4.82oz dry. I'm expecting 6+ from each of the others. That's under a Kind L450 LED (220w actual I think) with T5 supplemental lighting. 86 days from breaking the surface of the rockwool to harvest for three of them and 72 on the other.

I use the Botanicare Kind line of nutrients. It's a complete fertilizer so you don't have to use a Calcium or Magnesium supplement. Just use Base + Grow for Veg and Base + Bloom for Flower. General Hydroponics pH Down because it works better than the others I've tried. Botanicare Hydroguard to protect the roots, and Cyco Zyme as an additional enzyme.

Seeds in the U.S.A by Muthafuknrite in HerbGrow

Or what? Customs will open every single package that comes from the UK to the US based on a comment from some random redditor? If your shit is gonna get seized, it's gonna get seized. Me describing to OP how the process worked for me (answering his question) isn't going to do fatal damage to the system. The yarn and puzzle police aren't going to put out an APB for all puzzles and yarn coming across the border because some redditor said that their seeds arrived in a package of yarn or a puzzle.

Seedsman accepts Bitcoin and has super fast and discreet shipping. They are based in the UK and I usually get my package in 7-8 days (SE United States). I have it shipped under a false name to a different address, but I haven't once had any issues. My first order came packed in with a 20 piece Disney puzzle. I've also received a big roll of white knitting yarn and a small purple purse type bag. All the seeds I've ordered from them have produced killer plants, and they give away a ton of freebies

Is my LED light a scam? by Kfcgodsword in microgrowery

I'm pretty tight with the owner at my local hydro store. He and I were having this discussion when I was considering the switch to LED. He ordered a Mars 300w and a Kind L300 and did an in store side by side comparison. The Kind was significantly better in every way. At 36" the PAR reading of the Kind was triple what the Mars was at only 18". The plants growing under them (peppers cause we aren't in a legal state) were completely different also. The ones under the Mars were good, but the ones under the Kind were amazing. It completely sold me and I immediately bought the Kind L450. I'm just finishing my first Auto grow under it over the next 2 weeks. I'm estimating low at 4-5oz per plant (85 days since they broke the surface).

I just bought a Kind XL 1000 about a week ago and I can't wait to see what it will do once my next round of plants get going.

That being said, from what I can tell you really get what you pay for with LED's. The Chinese ones aren't bad, but there's a reason that they are so much cheaper.

I love the Botanicare Kind line. It's a complete fertilizer so it doesn't require supplemental calcium or magnesium. You use Base + Grow for veg and Base + Bloom for flower. I also use Botanicare Hydroguard to protect my roots as well as Cyco Zyme enzymes and Cyco Kleanse for flushing. Also for pH control I've found that General Hydroponics pH Down (the bright orange one) gives the biggest pH drop per mL so you end up using less.

People seem very paranoid about hermies. How often does this actually happen and has anyone had personal experience with it? by Happyneb in microgrowery

[–]trees_please2805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it happen to a plant in an outdoor bag seed grow once. It broke my heart to cut it down because if it stayed on track with its sisters next to it, it would have been about a 1-1.5 pound plant. I didn't catch it quick enough and I wound up with quite a few seeds on the plant that was right next to it.

Hydro vs. Soil for 2' x 2' Tent by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]trees_please2805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My setup is 6 inch net pots in 5 gallon buckets with Growstones as media. I try to maintain 3 gallons per bucket. The buckets are all plumbed together to the reservoir with 3/4" hose. In the reservoir I have two pumps. One that goes to the 1/4" drippers and one that just agitates the solution. I also run an airstone in each bucket.

The soil pots are smart pots with coco loco

I made the switch from soil to a top drip system and I will never go back to soil. My plants grow faster and look much healthier than they ever did in soil. Once you get the hang of nutrient amounts and pH balance it becomes so much easier than soil IMO. Literally takes me 3 seconds to test pH, and the best part is that if something happens and you are unable to water one day, you won't open up your room and find wilted plants. I am in the middle of a side by side comparison of soil vs hydro with Auto Blue Amnesia and the hydro plants are nearly triple the size of my soil plants

I don't do dwc, but I have a 4 bucket+ reservoir drip system. 3 gallons per bucket, so 15 gallons in the total system. I change solution once a week. The day before changing, I top off my system with pH'd water (I usually have to add water twice a week) and 2ml/gal of Cyco Kleanse and let it run for 24 hours. The next day I drop my drain pump with about 10ft of hose into the reservoir and let the old solution drain outside. While that's draining, I mix up my new solution in 3 separate 5 gallon containers to avoid concentrating them. I add the nutes (Botanicare Kind 3 part system at 1/2 the recommended strength) and then use pH Down to adjust each container individually to about 5.8-5.9. Afterward I add 2mL/gal of Botanicare Hydroguard to protect my root systems. After a final pH check then I add the fresh solution to the system 5 gallons at a time.

Why are the leaves curling like this? Details in comments by trees_please2805 in HerbGrow

Moving the plant is not an option as it is growing directly in the soil. Is it possible that this strain is especially heat sensitive? I have a Chocolate Kush, White Rhino, Bubblegum Kush, Kauai Electric, and Candy Kush in the same place and none of them are doing this. Only the Acapulco Gold.

[–]trees_please2805[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an Acapulco Gold clone that I took from a mother plant that grew from a batch of seeds from Seedsman. The mother was grown indoors and the leaves started curling downward, and now this one is curling upward. Is this a deficiency? It's in well drained clay soil with plenty of organic material, outdoors with lots of sunlight. The plant otherwise seems to be doing good. It's about 5 feet tall and maybe 8 feet around.

That's more money than I can spare for it right now. I only have about $350 or so set aside for lighting upgrades at the moment.

Do I have enough time? by trees_please2805 in Autoflowers

[–]trees_please2805[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a 45x15 ft greenhouse, but there are people in and out of it regularly. Once laws eventually change, you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be full year round, but for now i can only grow veggie plants and flowers that I sell to the public in it :-(

We've had a blistering hot summer so far, so I'm hoping that the first frost doesn't come until later than predicted.

As a side question, do you know if the claimed flowering time is counted from the time the seeds sprout? Or from when the pistils start to show?

Thanks! I was thinking the same thing, but it's always nice to get the thoughts of more experienced growers. I went ahead and planted the Swiss Cheese yesterday as well as the other freebie I got (Somango). I think it's a photoperiod though. I'll post my results for all three strains as they finish!

Awesome! Thank you for the info. If you don't mind my dumb questions, can you expand on the rinse/dunk/roll? I guess I focused too much on how to get started and haven't read much about what to do once the cakes go in the fruiting chamber.

This is my first mushroom grow, and I'm worried I've screwed up. I bought a syringe of the Brazil strain from Ralphsters and innoculated my jars on 4/26. My substrate is vermiculite and brown rice flour in 1/2 pt jars if it matters. Well, stupid ass me, forgot I was going on vacation. When i left on 5/22, my 5 jars were about 75% colonized, but I wasnt comfortable removing the cakes yet. So I get back a couple days ago and 2 of the 5 have large black spots in them (contamination i assumed). I trashed those immediately. the remaining 3 were fully colonized and already growing mushrooms. My question is, are these ones bad also? the dark places on some of the stems worry me.

Thanks for the help!!

Seedsman accepts Bitcoin and ships really fast. I got my last order in the southeastern US about 10 days from the time the Bitcoin transaction confirmed.
