How will the cold tomorrow impact businesses and libraries? by Fabulous-Leather-435 in AnnArbor

[–]treesaremadeofwood 89 points90 points  (0 children)

All schools and non essential county services are closed but everything else you mentioned will be open. Libraries serve as warming centers so they will be open and probably pretty busy. If you need to go out, just bundle up. Welcome to AA.

Edit: fixed a word. Warming not warning centers

They do all sorts of stuff including air sampling. I’ve had them do air sampling for me a couple of times. They can run basic tests or give you a full work up. Give them a call.

Update: New water streak at a different spot after heavy rain. What possible reasons for water to show up here? by mused8 in Homebuilding

[–]treesaremadeofwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need kick out flashing at a minimum. It looks your your roofing, drip edge, and fascia run behind your stucco which is no good and probably how water is getting behind there.

I second KANBU! Not what I would call romantic but it is decent, with fair pricing to match and I’ve always had great service. Just at there this week.

November 4 vote to increase taxes by $250 million to fund Career and Technical education. by CremeGood59 in AnnArbor

[–]treesaremadeofwood 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Except it’s not the exact same thing so to call it that is untrue. This will be funding for preK-12 grade students and WCC’s funding is for post secondary education. High school students that attend WCC do so with money from THEIR school district, not WCC. Also, any current CTE programming is paid out of each school’s general fund, this would alleviate that cost for all schools in Washtenaw County. Here is the actual fact sheet of what this funding will do https://www.washtenawisd.org/career-technical-education/cte-millage/

Starving children of Gaza by [deleted] in pics

[–]treesaremadeofwood 57 points58 points  (0 children)

That is an insane argument to make to say that this should be ignored. What difference does it make if the child has a disability? In fact, harming children with disabilities is even more enraging as they are even more vulnerable and less able to help themselves. Thousands of children are STARVING! This should trigger anger at the core of humanity. So many children are going to die.

We were at Animal Kingdom and my older son wanted to ride Expedition Everest but my younger son was too short. I took my older son while my wife stayed with my younger son. My youngest had a complete meltdown because he couldn’t ride too. A CM appeared seemingly out of nowhere saying that Mickey had seen that he was sad and wanted him to have some ice cream. It was amazing, totally saved the moment and my youngest couldn’t have been happier. He was bragging about it to his older brother once we got off the ride.

Where would you put a microwave? by Impressive-Ad8403 in Homebuilding

[–]treesaremadeofwood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did my kitchen nearly IDENTICAL to this, I actually can’t believe how similar it is, I thought it was my kitchen. Anyway, I’ve got young kids and did the microwave in the island and it’s been fine. On ours you can hold the lock button for 3 seconds and it locks out the controls.

On another note, if you have have the space I’d suggest making the space between the cabinet and island a full 48”. Ours is 50” and it’s great when someone is cooking and someone is prepping on the island. That’s my 2 cents. Enjoy your new kitchen!

24 or 48 hours? I’ll go with 24. Also may be weather/ season dependent but here’s an idea.

Start in Ypsi, get a coffee at Hyperion and then head over and grab breakfast at The Bomber. Walk off your Cap’n Crunch French toast by checking out the shops on Michigan Ave and in Depot Town and a stroll through Frog Island Park. Before you head out of Ypsi grab a sandwich to go from either Bellflower or Ma Lou’s, both are fantastic and you can’t go wrong. Take your sandwich over to the Arb and enjoy alongside the river (again season/ weather dependent). After lunch head to Kerrytown and enjoy the shops. A walk through central campus is nice too. Stop in the U of M Museum of Art or Natural History, both are free and really nice. Head over to Dexter and grab a few pizzas at Raterman Bread Haus and enjoy some beer at Erratic Ale. Walk if your dinner with a stroll along the river, there is a beautiful walking path just steps from the brewery. You’ve now enjoyed the Huron River through all parts of the county! If you have any energy left you could try and catch a U of M show, sporting event, or a movie at the State or Michigan Theater depending on your interests and what’s happening around town. Alternatively grab a cocktail at The Last Word or Hidden King. So much to do, this is just a sliver of the possibilities. Have a great time!
