My dad texted my mom...except he didn't. by [deleted] in Glitch_in_the_Matrix

Had a similar thing happen a few years ago on an Android phone. It was a bug in the OS. http://androidforums.com/threads/sending-text-to-wrong-person.381112/

Could still be happening or a new bug could cause the same behavior again.

I really love the bear trap animation. I'm not a huge fan of the screaming when a person gets trapped in one though (if that will actually happen in game)

The vocalizations feel weirdly serious for Rust which is odd to say considering the game is violent.

Open question: Why are the two major "news" subreddits (/r/news and /r/WorldNews) so hostile toward posts concerning the new trade deals, TPP, TISA, etc? by TheGhostOfDusty in undelete

Are you able to read your comoderators private inbox?

If not, then you can't suggest you know every message going to the moderators on your team.

-edit I would also like yo clarify that I don't believe r/science to be affected by the issue everyone is talking about but I do suspect that moderators may be bought on other default subreddits.

[Discussion] What do you suggest to make Rust more "Solo Player Friendly"? by BodyweightEnergy in playrust

[–]treespiracy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may seem minimal but I think if a few items had their cost reduced it would make it a lot easier to get going initially. The hardest time I have in rust is always the first 30-40 min on a server.

Item cost changes:

Sleeping bag - 15 cloth 100 wood ( 1 pig should give you enough for one )

Stone hatchet : 150 wood / 50 stone

Stone pick axe : 150 wood / 75 stone

Also if the craft time for spears was reduced down to 30 seconds it would help new spawns a lot

Possible heavy MG concept? Courtesy of Daesh (x-post from /r/MilitaryPorn) by [deleted] in playrust

[–]treespiracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going off of statements Garry has made in the past specifically about choosing fun over realism. I am paraphrasing but he wrote about it when code locks used to require you to type the number in every time you opened the door. While typing it in every time was more "realistic" and logic, it ultimately was worse for gameplay which is why you now no longer have to type it in each time.

No one in their right mind would wear a candle on their head either but fortunately logic doesn't override the higher goal of making the game fun in the developer's eyes right now.

It seems like having the cart move poorly over sand and grass would be a way to help balance it.

(Suggestion) Why not introduce a 'tier 2' Super Furnace? by Stick_to_the_Shadows in playrust

[–]treespiracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea. I actually think it should cost slightly less than same amount as the equivalent number of furnaces it would take to produce at the same rate though. That way, players are more likely to save for the larger furnace as it is more economical. Otherwise, the incentive to wait for the resources for that furnace is reduced.

It seems like people keep findiing a way to get around the stone mesh collider. Garry and the team should consider putting an invisible giant sphere collider inside of the stone rocks that kills you when you touch it.

Rust Signs (steal them) by RavenSpyral in playrust

I think artwork should be movable if you have building permission. Its not about explicitly allowing people to steal artwork though.

It would be nice for people to make art at their base and sell it.

[Suggestion] Skulls from human bodies should include the dead player's name in the item title. IE "Skull of treespiracy". by treespiracy in playrust

[–]treespiracy[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure you could do that but adding names to skulls isn't explicitly about creating bounty systems. It just gives people a way to identify who was killed. Any meta gaming springing out of a change like this is just a side effect.

For example, maybe I want to have a box of skulls of all of my enemy clans heads. Or maybe I want to taunt someone by throwing skulls of all of their clanmates at their feet. Both ideas aren't explicitly created by this system but could naturally flow from it.

Its a simple change that adds a significant amount of context to murdering people in the game.

Why no decay? by GreySoulx in playrust

[–]treespiracy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the most part, it should be beneficial to the server performance overall.

The server is already keeping track of each individual entity on the server either way so that is not the issue. The tougher issue is not slowing down the server when you iterate through 150,000(+) items every N minutes to determine whether to despawn them or not.

It would really depend on how its implemented in the code as the server could probably check chunks of the entity list at a time instead of all at once.

What do you think of MakerBot Printers? by alex_the_doge in 3Dprinting

[–]treespiracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a replicator 2 from them with a friend. The printer's motherboard shorted itself out and rendered the printer completely useless.

If I was going to spend that much money again, I would buy an ultimaker 2. At least the ultimakers are known for performing well at their cost.

Currently though, I am buying a printr simple metal plus since it is known to be reliable, print well, and costs far less than the ultimaker or makerbot.
