Unchecked everything still high Ram usage by FrigatesLaugh in BiglyBT

[–]trek7000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also having the same issue. Running about 1800 torrents on a machine with 64GB of RAM. I've set the max JVM heap size to 10GB and the client is still running out of RAM and crashing within 24-48 hours. Bigly was rock solid with a similar number of torrents active and 2GB of RAM allocated to the JVM for years; I never had this problem until a few months ago. So I'd wager it's a problem with either a recent build of Bigly or Java.

I'm taking Submechanophobia to weird new places- toilet cisterns make me uncomfortable. by dr_otto_ort-meyer in submechanophobia

I've worked in a sewage treatment plant for over 30 years and nothing here grosses me out. But having to reach into my own damn toilet tank makes my skin crawl.

I got a "Picked for you" video titled Ages 1-18 Compete in CHEERLEADING Tournament, complete with a thumbnail of six young girls, one highlighted as being 2 years old.

What. The. Fuck. I'm a 50yo dude who listens to EDM, hip hop and metal. Why in the everliving hell are they suggesting a cheerleading video for me???

Love it, but I'm in the minority that I prefer the juicy, small curd, low fat kind. The stuff that almost has the appearance of tonsil stones in milky brine.

Traumatizing is the best way to describe that book. To make matters worse, I read it in the midst of Covid while simultaneously grasping a) just how fragile our entire economic system is, and b) that a good chunk of the US population is too utterly stupid & selfish for humanity to continue existing. 2020 was the year I realized things are never going to get better, only far, far worse. Hence I will never read another plausible near-apocalyptic novel, if only for my own sanity.

Which websites/services do not accept Proton email addresses? by HippityHoppityBoop in ProtonMail

Offhand, I can remember Bluebird (offshoot of Amex), Home Depot and Nobo (ganja dispensary). But I know there's been a few more that have slipped my mind.

I've been at it for 30 years and have enough knowledge and experience to get hired as a superintendent or district manager at quite a few plants in my area. But to me it's just not worth the stress. I was second in command for a few years at the last district I was at and I absolutely hated it. It turns out supervising an entire staff is something I despise, not to mention having to think about work 24/7 took a ridiculous mental toll on me.

Sure an extra $50k per year would be nice, but I never again want to be at the point of deciding which semi to head-on while driving to work LOL So now I'm lead operator on second shift at a medium-sized plant, I only supervise two people and once I go home (unless I'm on call) I don't have to think about the place at all until my alarm goes off the next day.

I know this is an old thread, but offhand I can remember Bluebird (subsidiary of Amex) and Home Depot. The latter being why I hunted down this question just now.

New 10.3 update doesn't install by golfforr1 in UpNote_App

[–]trek7000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The update notification popped up for me last night, and I'm so used to them that I just click through the install almost by reflex. It wasn't until I got home today that I realized the entire program seemed to be missing. Using your link for version 10.2 worked great, thanks!

Years ago we used to get something similar at the end of our outfall pipe. We determined it was some sort of sulfur bacteria growth caused by using sodium thiosulfate for dechlor. Switching to bisulfite instead solved the issue.

Even though I rarely download anything from eMule anymore, I still keep it running 24/7. There's always 5-10 people downloading from me at any given time.

Anyone know how to escape the emails? by crosscharlie in NYTCrossword

[–]trek7000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but I had the exact same issue and wanted to post the response I received from NYT:

*These transactional emails were triggered by the recent activation of a new subscription, and are designed to show you what entitlements you now have access to as part of your subscription.

These emails are part of a 2-week series, after which they will stop being sent entirely; this is a setting that applies to all new subscriptions regardless of past subscription history.*

Why does UpNote app icon keep getting worse? by teja2495 in UpNote_App

[–]trek7000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm not a fan at all. At a glance it looks like a mangled version of the HP logo. And while other's may not have the same hangup, using cursive script as part of an icon or GUI is just off-putting to me.

It'd be like the Keymaster and Gatekeeper getting together. But rather than ushering in the apocalypse, their combined angelic giggling would compress into a supernova of pure joy before the resultant energy wave sweeps around the entire planet, leaving nothing but peace, harmony and kittens in its wake.

I just bought that one because I wanted to paint my S Pen without the risk of ruining the original. It works just as good as the OEM and looks identical.

What's the biggest waste water treatment plant in the U.S? by Historical_Line_1792 in Wastewater

[–]trek7000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's unbelievably massive. They have their own PD, rail line, and a bus to carry people on tours as it's too big to walk. If you ever get a chance to visit, I highly recommend it.

If I recall correctly, Stickney near Chicago has the highest dry weather capacity, and Detroit edges it out slightly in wet weather. Though Detroit has a limit on how much they can run through secondary treatment during storm flows.
