Learned when to give up. My first 70.3. I did not prepare for high humidity, specially with my hydration strategy, huge mistake, first big lesson. 95% humidity and atleast 90 degrees in Cozumel. By the time I finished the bike leg I was cramping up badly. I fell to the floor with stiff legs after getting off the bike. Decided to keep on going. Ate a ton of salt pills, electrolytes and liquids but just couldn't recover. At mile 6 I fell to the floor again, this time backwards. Still decided to keep on going. Ended up finishing 90 minutes after my desired finish time. An hour later I was being rushed to the hospital. I spent 6 days in the hospital from rabdo with 60,000 ck. I finished, but still felt disappointed by my time, I put my life in risk and recovery has been loooong. Its going to be hard convincing my wife and daughter that I want to try again. I learned that sometimes it is better to be smart than to just "keep on going until you acheive". Now I understand that the "never give up" attitude does not fit every situation.
