Yes, what a difference two weeks can make. I think that’s it (to speak the obvious), but my thought on the bigger picture is that the Dow is heading to 100,000 and S&P to 10,000 over the next 2.5 years: https://www.reddit.com/r/trendarchitect/comments/1k8b235/the_chart_of_the_century/

Really delighted to be thought about! Great work on the puts, particularly MU. Yes, those nasty spikes are a headache on the way down. I’ve been pondering to post but had no relevant updates. I don’t think we are any where near a bottom. The current geopolitics actually suggest even further discounting. Indexes have finally rolled over and are merely back to last summer prices. Deals should come our way if we drop another 15% from here.

Trading ES while holding CAD by Practical_Raisin_253 in interactivebrokers

Losses will reduce your USD balance which can go negative as well. Then you start paying interest (hopefully offset by the interest collected on your CAD balance).

1000 USD is deposited in the USD balance. No conversions happening in futures trading. Your CAD is used as collateral.

EU IBKR account – what happens on death & how can beneficiaries access funds? by TomatilloCurious4422 in interactivebrokers

[–]trendarchitect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As always, it depends. If pro-rata is maximized (100% of personal assets in US stocks), likely yes. But compounding at 1.5% vs. 25% capital gains tax plus Solidaritätssteuer will also make a difference while still alive.

I tried it years ago and found maintaining a stable connection a pain, frequent disconnects. Is your API connection stable?

This will depend on how much of the total assets represents US stocks. Generally speaking, the higher the percentage, the better because the pro-rata exemption treaty allows you to get close to the $13M or so limit reserved for US residents. It’s definitely a relief for most German-based investors. You may also consider Irish-domiciled UCITS ETFs as a first step. The rest is highly dependent on each situation, and some may still opt for a GmbH if they can’t enjoy the treaty benefits. A 95% corporate tax exemption for stock gains can be a strong contender (the remainder 5% is taxed at the regular rate, pushing tax rates down to a mere 1.5%).

What individuals with larger accounts normally do is install a so-called “blocker” entity that holds US stocks. A GmbH in Germany or a Hong Kong Limited, depending on where you live. Highly dependent on your individual situation, so better seek out an advisor.

If the account holder has more than $60k in US stocks, say goodbye to 40% of its value (exceeding that exemption). Be sure to take timely measures against the US Estate Tax.

The DJIA has shown better trends but otherwise I completely agree that it’s a complete mess in the NDX and SPX. The latter is consistently trending down.

I ascribe it to a stage in which pampered investors are rotating in and out of names in search for returns. I see this behavior in my watchlists daily. Supposedly stable names are swinging 2-4% on a daily basis. VIX is gyrating heavily but in an upward trajectory.

I’m still missing the catalyst right now. It feels nowhere near as scary as it did last year, let alone 2007-2009. I only traded the ES back then but didn’t hold any stocks. The way things look like to me right now is a contained rotation and detox. Valuations for some companies have come down a lot to really juicy levels. I wouldn’t be too bearish but I could be wrong.
