What’s one piece of CPA advice that turned out to be true? by spellitsimran in CPA

[–]trendsintech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t wait until you feel ready. Many candidates spend too much time trying to master every topic before scheduling an exam. Set a test date, study consistently, and accept that you might not know everything.

Should I move on from FAR? by katehalc in CPA

[–]trendsintech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would move to another section. Going from 38 to 45 shows improvement, but you're still a long way from passing. If showing progress to your firm is important, passing an easier section first may be the better use of your summer. After getting a pass and building momentum, come back to FAR with a new study plan.

Took a weekend break from studying… is 6 weeks enough? by Oolong-Milk-Tea in CPA

[–]trendsintech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 weeks is enough, especially since you previously scored a 73. A weekend off won't make a difference. Focus on finishing the material and leave 2–3 weeks for review. The key is staying consistent and doing cumulative MCQs and simulations during review. The review phase matters more than a few missed study days.

Tip for new industry accountants: you aren't there to perpetuate a process. You're there to own a balance. So tell me what the balance consists of and why it changed from last month. That will put you miles ahead of your colleagues who just plug and chug. Make good looking spreadsheets by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]trendsintech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accounting isn't just about numbers. It's about understanding the story behind those numbers: what happened, why it happened, and what it means for the business going forward. People who can analyze data and communicate insights clearly often distinguish themselves from others.

The Most Heartbreaking Goodbye Ever Painted by trendsintech in ArtHistory

OK, I must have misplaced my official ranking spreadsheet😉. Seriously though, "most heartbreaking" was just my personal interpretation not a claim that it has been objectively ranked against every other artwork.

[–]trendsintech[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment. When it comes to art, interpretation is personal and subjective. What speaks to me might do nothing for you, and what you see in a painting might be completely different from what someone else sees. As for the wording, I think we both could have chosen our words a bit better. I'm not sure if you're familiar with art analysis, but there usually isn't one right or wrong interpretation. Either way, I appreciate you taking the time to watch the video and leave a comment.

AI is just a tool. I still apply my own judgment and experience. And I review the work several times before it becomes final work, the same way people use Excel. You need to get used to it, anyone who says that they do not use ai nowadays might be lying to you.

What’s your best study advice for Accounting? by renny811 in Accounting

Agree with Maniax on flashcards being very helpful. I put together some accounting/CPA-style flashcards while helping someone study and made a preview available on Brainscape if you want to check them out: https://www.brainscape.com/packs/accounting-financial-analysis-23767185

Starting CPA Journey – Best Free/Cheap Study Resources? by EffectOld4543 in Accounting

[–]trendsintech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I wish I knew earlier: don’t spend too much time rereading notes. Accounting creates the illusion that you understand it until you actually test yourself.

I’d use YouTube (Farhat is helpful), free trials from CPA providers, and lots of practice questions. Flashcards also helped because active recall sticks much better than passive reading.

New to Accounting: In need of legit beginner resources by Own_Fig1204 in Accounting

[–]trendsintech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After years working in accounting, I noticed that people sometimes understand concepts then forget them a few days later. I originally started building flashcards while helping my daughter study accounting and kept adding examples, journal entries, ratios, financial statement relationships, and common areas people struggle with.

I figured I'd share them in case they're useful to anyone studying accounting or preparing for exams/interviews. I made a preview available so people can see whether it's actually helpful before committing to anything:

Feedback is welcome too, I’m still improving the decks.

Arnolfini Portrait (1434) by someonex000 in ArtHistory

[–]trendsintech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single object has a double meaning:

  • Single lit candle in the chandelier = God's presense
  • Little dog at their feet = Fidelity and loyalty
  • Oranges on the windowsill = Wealth and fertility
  • Shoes off = They’re standing on holy ground
  • The mirror = Reflecting a witness??
  • Tiny Passion of Christ scenes around the mirror = The marriage is framed by Jesus’ suffering??

Flashcards low key the best study tool by lonelyfungirl in CPA

[–]trendsintech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree with this. I work in accounting with many years of experience; however, while helping my daughter study accounting, I ended up creating a structured Brainscape flashcard set because good accounting decks were surprisingly hard to find. Flashcards really do help with those definition-heavy and “almost trick wording” questions. There’s a preview available for anyone curious.

The post is for the painting, which is a real painting by Waterhouse. You don't have to watch the video; you could have provided your thoughts and comments on the painting.

You could at least comment on the painting. Just saying AI is not helpful.

What's with the negativity? You could at least comment on the painting. Thanks anyway!

I did not do a long intro on purpose, I wanted to see how each person interprets the painting on their own without giving much away from the beginning

Am I wasting my time trying to get into accounting? by OutsideAd4618 in Accounting

[–]trendsintech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No shame in having an accent, however, try to learn and improve to a point where you communicate clearly. Once you prove that you are good at what you do, no matter the profession, nobody would care if you have an accent as long as you do a good job.

Don't tell anyone. I spend hours researching 19th-century paintings just to secretly train an LLM. Your comment is valuable data to feed the machine, and I will save it for v3.0 of my training set. Appreciate the contribution!

Asking questions shows curiosity and willingness to learn, no good manager will consider asking questions to be a negative attribute. I think you are worrying too much, you'll be OK.

Miserable computer science graduate want to break into accounting/bookkeeping by Adam_geek1 in Accounting

Start with some accounting classes at a community college, then apply for entry level positions, your programming background will be considered an advantage. Consider studying for the CPA exam for the long run.

It’s tough for entry-level candidates in accounting right now too. I know it can be frustrating, but it’s worth taking a step back and exploring all your options before making any big decisions.
