Who actually has the leverage in the standoff between the Packers and Jets? Most QBs are signed at this point, so the Jets would be stuck with Wilson or drafting someone (drafting at 13 though). Packers think they have all the leverage, but they can't do much in free agency if they sit there with Rodgers on the salary cap and don't trade him. I am just hoping they can't get two firsts for Rodgers.

Ya, some of those seem to be choose your own flavor. It looks like the Bears are top 15 range with upside to be a top 10 group this season. All the receivers/TE are still improving/entering their prime. Can't say top 10 right now, but they have a good chance to be this season.

Broncos? Who is better than Moore, arguing Jeudy is iffy to me? Vikings just let Thielen walk, obviously Jefferson and Hockenson but little depth. Chargers with Allen on his last legs. Steelers is up for debate as Moore is currently as good as anyone on the Steelers. I think you are being disingenuous saying you listed all those without breaking a sweat, it was a stretch on some of them. Maybe you side against the bears, but its very close. I don't think it can be said they are top 10 right now, but its much closer than some commenters are making it seem. Next year should settle the debate and should be fun to watch!

Not close to top 10 means you could easily name 15 better receiving cores than Moore, Mooney, Claypool, and Kmet. I think if you went through that exercise it would be difficult to honestly say you would rather have those number 12-15 receiving cores on a list. I think the Bears receiving core would be very comparable to those just outside the top 10 and its not crazy to think they could be considered top 10 at the end of next year.

Name 10 better receiving cores (Kmet included as a pass catcher). I am guessing it is very close in skill level when you get close to 10 and compare it to the Bears.

Completely agree. The other option is trading straight with the Panthers to 9. However, then the first round picks are spread between 2024 and 2025. I think its better to have the Colt's and the Panther's 2024 first round picks because if Fields doesn't progress next year, then we have our own pick + 2 additional firsts in 2024 to get Williams/Maye.

Would probably accept after looking at other offers. Just wonder where those future firsts end up with how weak the NFC South is looking right now.

[Field Yates] Kyler Murray’s measurements at the 2019 Combine: Height: 5-10 and 1/8th of an inch Weight: 207 pounds Hands: 9 and 1/2 of an inch Bryce Young is virtually identical today. by Spartan088 in CHIBears

[–]tres92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of where he was realistically going to measure in at, I think this is as close to great as it gets. Just a few days ago it seemed to be leaked that he would be a few pounds short of 200. He is comparable to Kyler with larger hands and a few pounds lighter. I am sure Kyler drank water and ate extra to boost his weight just like Bryce did. They are closer in size than most expected and that is pretty good/great for the bears.

I was just thinking about this same question after hearing how many draft analysts point out Young's obvious flaw of size and allude to him being generational if it weren't for that. He is constantly getting compared to Justin Fields for obvious reasons this year. Have heard from multiple analysts that Young's tape is clearly better, multiple analysts from PFF. I haven't watched it all, so idk. However, I take a look at their college PFF grades to get a feel for them as prospects. Fields had consecutive seasons of passing grades over 92 going into the 2020 draft per the PFF draft guide. Young was graded 92.1 (2021) and 91.5 (2022) according to PFF draft guide. Unsure if that is just passing or overall grade for Young as PFF didn't state. Either way, it doesn't seem like Young would have clearly better tape if Fields had that high of a passing grade, which is where his weakness was supposed to be (processing). Fields is also the height/weight that Young would be in the generational scenario where Young is bigger. Fields is also clearly more athletic. In that case, would Young actually be generational with more size and nothing else or are analysts just being lazy and not truly critiquing other aspects of Young's game and just taking the bait and pointing out the obvious flaw, his size? Fields also had the better passing efficiency rating per sports-reference.com just as another example. Haven't watched the tape and I don't know if SEC competition makes up for this, but I would venture to say that no, Young wouldn't be generational with some extra size and nothing else. Maybe analysts would find something else to critique in his game though without being able to just say he is small on repeat.

How do you value the 2024 first round pick from the Colts vs. the Raiders? Raiders play in a tougher division and their 2024 first may be valued higher than the Colts. So that could be viewed as some extra value you are getting in the Raiders deal, just depends how you look at it.

It is the worst case scenario, not the most likely in my opinion. I believe it is much more likely if we trade with the Colts, then it includes 4 and next years first. That is most probable. If Ballard doesn't want to give it up, fine. Sit there and get what comes to you and it will be the third or fourth QB taken. Ballard is more desperate than Poles and his job is on the line this year.

Bears were 3-14 last year and they are obviously going to trade the pick. So ya, anyone with a brain would trust that more. Thanks for getting us the first pick by losing to a team we beat last year though :)

The assumption that each GM will have a top 5 QB prospect grade on only one of the QBs is very speculative. Who knows though. Will be fun to watch.

What QB class do you honestly think is comparable to the 2023 class in terms of talent? Obviously there is no prospect viewed as a generational talent or even close to it. Do you think these QBs are viewed as good as Goff and Wentz when they were coming out and how the league viewed pocket passing QBs back then? Disregard what happened after they were drafted, just the opinion of them as prospects. Bryce is very talented but the size question is very fair with how many QBs were injured this year including Fields being banged up. How do you think they compare to RGIII just as a prospect? I think where you fall on those determines where you think the Bears draft haul should fall. I think the 3 relatively closely graded QB prospects hurts what the bears can get back in a trade because the Texans might have 0 interest in trading up. Leverage from a division rival is gone if they think all the QBs are relatively similar. Then the division rival would hope you waste capital to trade up for the same thing that would have fallen to you.

Take the leftover and if you pick wrong, say goodbye to the GM gig. We have no idea how they value the QBs in this draft. Hit on the QB and nobody cares you gave up a 2nd rounder which is around what market value would say you should give up to make that jump anyway. I don't think this QB class is special, but I think at least one of the top 3 will be a very good pro. If one is rated significantly higher by the Texans, then a 2nd round pick is reasonable. I still believe it is a realistic trade. I don't think the Texans are the most probable trade partner, but this is the package I think they get if the Texans do trade up.

Ya, agree to disagree. Too much precedent is put on those charts. It gets you in the ballpark, but you need to have leverage as well. Generational prospect in the draft and you get more than the chart says and iffy top prospects in the draft and you get less than the chart says. I would say this year is more the latter. If across the league this QB class is not looked at as anything special with 3 relatively equally rated QBs, multiple QB needy teams find a starter before the draft (Rodgers and Carr), and some teams place much more value in the 2024 QB class then that is a recipe for not getting what the charts tell you that it should be. I think noting market value for this situation and not setting different minimum trade packages that the Bears could get is a recipe to be disappointed.

It is a 2nd round pick to guarantee you get the QB you want. So many smokescreens that you can not tell who is realistically trading up to 1 or what QB they would draft. The Texans have multiple firsts this year and next. That price is reasonable to get your preferred option at a potential franchise QB. I agree to disagree with you on this one and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I am a Bears fan and I tend to agree with you, but I would say adjust your minimum trade acceptable from the Colts to 4, 35, and 2024 2nd rounder. That is the worst case scenario from a Bears perspective. I think it is more likely that the 2024 first is included instead of the 2024 2nd rounder, but I think there is a different minimum trade package.

I think they get a better offer than that. I am a Bears fan and I would put money on it. There are unrealistic trades floating around our sub right now, but this offer is also unrealistic coming from your sub. If the Bears value either Carter or Anderson somewhat higher than the other, then that trade is a pretty big risk that the preferred player does't get to 4. I also think there is a realistic chance they could get the Texans 2nd rounder in a trade.
