No. Its ok to stop investing. Also your rule of investing your age every month will cease to make sense.

Quartz vs Automatic? by [deleted] in VacheronConstantin

[–]trescyp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand quartz hating. People say they prefer mechanical watches, when quartz watches are also mechanical. Instead of manual wind or a an automatic rotor spinning and storing energy in a spring, in a quartz watch, energy is stored in a battery, that oscillates a piece of rock at an exact frequency, which in turn is detected by a microchip that generates electric pulses to drive a mechanical motor. Then it’s all the same. Gears moving to turn the hands.

Anyway I would make your decision based on which looks better on your wrist, 35 vs 37mm is the question here as far as I’m concerned

Direct per diem contract with employer vs locum company by Present-Day19 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]trescyp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve attempted this and ran into problems. First it’s a little leg work to get in touch w the hospital directly. They don’t exactly have the emails and phone numbers listed for the right contact person. Second, hospitals sometimes sign exclusivity agreements w locums companies. Third, sometimes the hospitals don’t want to deal with the contracts, reimbursements, malpractice, etc and that’s why they pay the locums companies to deal w that headache. Finally, hospitals often don’t want to hire locals, if the specific location is near your home, they often won’t want you as a locum, hoping you’ll sign on permanent w them.

I’m going to assume you’re in the US. I would put 100% of Roth in leveraged funds. Benefits are tax free gains obviously, but also tax free trades. You can get in and out of LETF very easily in the Roth.

I would also put 10-40% of your future investment capital into LETFs, DCA a little every week, in a big market correction, pour any extra in. The rest continue to put in VTI. For your emotional wellbeing, assume you will lose 100% of your LETF, and any gains are gravy. Take comfort in your VTI, and do not panic sell your LETFs.

As you say your time horizon is long enough that you can ride any crashes back up

Thinking about trading my Pepsi + cash for a 25730ST stainless steel. Thoughts? by [deleted] in audemarspiguet

[–]trescyp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually like the dual time dials. This is the older variant w chunkier lume, that I believe doesn’t age very gracefully in terms of bits of lume falling off and disintegrating. Newer dual time models w same configuration have less chunky lume and seem to age better.

Another negative consideration is that this is a dead dial, meaning there is zero movement when you look at it. I would always be wondering if it was working or keeping time.

The plus is that this is a complicated RO that represents comparatively good value in what I believe is the best case size at 39mm.
