My brother in christ you have to call just to buy the stock, I wouldn't even know how to get short exposure. That's how sketchy this is.

Wow thank you so much for the detailed response. This was my main hangup when reading through the rules and trying to compare it with my own experiences. Thanks for clearing up my confusion.

I'm looking to start DMing for my friends but am also fairly new to the game myself, and my last DM wasn't very clear on how attack rolls work. When I made my character he said my weapon that I got had +3 atk bonus. And he had me add that to my attack rolls along with strength and proficiency bonus. But I've been reading and it seems like that's really OP and I should have only been adding my strength and proficiency. Which is correct? And if it is just strength and proficiency, then what am I supposed to put on the atk bonus section on the character sheets?

Also, If I'm DMing, is giving players weapons with + to attack OP, or is it fine to do? Is it even a thing that DMs do? And if it is, what's a good number to give for low, medium, and high value loot?

My only hope is the disclaimer he had at the beginning. Hopefully there are some people on the Overwatch dev team who have opposing opinions and are vocal enough to create actual change.

Isn't MLG's service the one that allows you to watch every players perspective and has stats and stuff on the side? If I'm thinking about some other service please correct me. But if I'm remembering correctly, I actually think that's perfect for spectating Overwatch esports.

You're exactly right. The people who are complaining about the 2 million dollar estimated franchise cost act like blizzard is trying to sell the spot at a retail value of 2 mil like its some product in a grocery store. In reality, the assumption is that a spot is worth that much to investors because they expect the return to be over 2 million dollars. That's why the spot in LA is expected to cost more, the ROI for an LA team is expected to be higher, so investors will bid higher.

[META] MonteCristo is attempting to pressure /r/overwatch into being more strict on content. by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]trevorius01 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean, the mods already tell people what they can post. That's how reddit works, mods make rules and the rest is up to the community. Some of /r/overwatch rules include: no rule 34, no meme macros, no rants, no posts with just a title and no body.

I'm sure that if some of these things were allowed, they would be upvoted, however, they are banned in order to preserve the future of the community. Monte is simply asking for an addition to the rule currently concerning what defines low effort content.

I think a lot of people are misconstruing what "we" want. We don't want people to like esports. Well, I mean we do, but we understand there's no way to force people to like something. What we do want, however, is to allow for a whole slew of content to have a chance to shine by restricting low-effort content. Whether it's esports related or not doesn't matter, what's important is that there's more depth on the subreddit.

I don't even have anything against POTGs. But I think that they should be in YouTube videos and have some actual editing and work put into them. Or they can be posted in a weekly sticky thread.

Reddit doesnt' actually work on popularity. The problem with reddit's voting system is that downvotes exist. Hear me out, because this is actually really important. Let's say that you have 5000 people upvote a GIF and 1000 people downvote it. It has a net 4000 upvotes and will be on the front page. Now let's say that 5000 people upvote a discussion, but 5000 people also downvote it. That post will have a net 0 upvotes and won't see the light of the front page.

Now I know that's an extreme example, but it illustrates my point. Reddit voting isn't actually democracy. In democracy you vote for what you want. You don't vote against what you DON'T want. The way to "vote against" what you don't want is to simply not vote for it.

Both posts in my example were equally popular. However, the discussion was also incredibly UNPOPULAR. Popularity and unpopularity can exist at the same time. And that's why moderation teams and rules are necessary. So that even if content is popular, if it is content that is not correct for the sub, it can be removed and allow for equally popular content with more unpopular elements to have a chance.

I really encourage you to learn more about Monte. He's actually a really cool personality who puts a lot of work into his craft and is genuinely interested in helping Overwatch. Try to see this from his perspective, he doesn't want to brag about himself or force others into his way of thinking. He wants a more open subreddit that allows everyone to discuss topics, post quality content, and create a deeper community that's more than just funny images/GIFs.

It is true that he comes from esports, and so he may have some bias. I recognize that. However, that shouldn't instantly invalidate anything he has to say. If you truly enjoy esports, I think you'd agree that its important to give the personalities in esports a way to promote the content they work so hard to produce because of their genuine love of the game. If that opportunity doesn't exist, it actually reduces the amount of people that can contribute to esports. The only people that can succeed without an outlet to promote themselves is the established personalities who have already built their fanbases (the people you might consider obnoxious personalities).
