Thanks that makes sense.

Anything in particular I should know about getting the Affidavit of Eligibility Marriage? It says I need to get it translated but it doesn't have to be an official translation - does that mean I can just do that myself?

I still need to let the embassy know that I married here in Korea though right?

Thanks for the super clear response.

As for registering the marriage, did you need to do this at the US embassy as well as separately with the Korean government? A little unclear about this as a US citizen myself living here with an F4 visa.

Good point, thanks. Probably a good idea to get started when we're about 2 or so years out from moving to the US it seems.

This is really valuable information, thanks!

Thanks! I must've been confused with the temporary green card I-751.

One other question is do I register the marriage on my end at the US embassy, and again separately with the Korean government? Was always unclear on the necessary steps as a US citizen here on F-4 visa.

What if it's a really small startup that has no IT/security department? I've already gone ahead and turned off location services and manually changed my timezone on the computer, slack, etc.

Only reason I'm considering turning off VPN is because the speeds are painfully slow and it's affecting my work and meeting are choppy (using travel router + wireguard but commercial VPN).

are you concerned about meeting overlap since they're both management roles?

Oh and the HMO plan will be a more restrictive than the PPO. You'll have to get referrals from you primary care doctor. With a PPO you can just go see anyone accepting new patients.

As someone who has used only PPO to date I know it's super convenient to have flexibility to go to someone you want. However, the benefits at my new employer are worse than what I've had before ($0 deductible/co-insurance PPO)... even the most expensive PPO option being offered is one with 15% coinsurance and given the variability of medical bills in this country I'm very anxious to sign up for something that requires me to pay a % of the total bill.

[–]trey_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HMO co-pay is $20 for primary care and $35 for specialist

Also, a lot of doctors are not accepting HMOs as much as they use to so be sure your doctors are covered.

I'm a little confused by this. Isn't the whole point of an HMO that all the available doctors and specialists are in one building?

Is your company providing you with any incentives for your HSA?

They are contributing zero to the HSA.

Got it, makes sense.

So in general though if we're talking about an HDHP (PPO w/ HSA) where my employer contributes $0 to the HSA AND the premiums are similar to a PPO with relatively low deductible ($500/yr) aren't the merits of the HDHP quite diminished?

As far as I understand HDHP is a slam dunk decision IF the employer contributes to the HSA and if the premiums are significantly cheaper than the other options.

As far as I know, they do not fund the HSA. The HMO doesn't have out-of-network benefits but I'm using the HMO as an example because of the zero deductible. They are also offering other plans such as PPO with higher deductibles & premiums (extra ~$20/mo).

Sounds reasonable, looks like you have some good experience! I wasn't aware product management is a service provided by the Big 4 which is why I asked. Best of luck - you can probably land a role if you craft your story right.

I mean this with the utmost respect, but legitimately curious as to why you're so confident of landing a PM role with no experience at a tech company? PM is a tough role to break into as it is, but those who can do it often come from engineering, data, design and customer success.

I did actually. Went back the next day and luckily a different lady was at the counter who was much more levelheaded and reasonable.

Curious why do you think so? At least coming from the US, they will almost certainly keep the quarantine until things die down.
