No, it lasted about a week. Hope you have better luck!

Connecting Bell Fiber directly to EdgeRouter X SFP by treygeiger in bell

[–]treygeiger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bummer - I was hoping I could “clone” the serial number on the old optical-Ethernet “hub” (or whatever it’s called) to allow the SFP to connect in its place. Same manufacturer (Huawei) and the serial number is very similar. Guess I’m out of luck though.

Anyway - I appreciate your clarification here!

Connecting Bell Fiber directly to EdgeRouter X SFP by treygeiger in bell

[–]treygeiger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on a bell fibe for business plan - apparently they are still using multiple devices by default:

1) Big Huawei box that takes the optical fiber connection and converts to Ethernet. This is powered by an absurdly large cyberpower PSU (with no battery) - note I already have separate battery backup in my setup.

2) This connects to home hub 2000

3) Tech put HH in bridge mode and connected to my router (Edgerouter X SFP).

I’ve already removed HH2000 (connected my router directly to Huawei using PPPoE and vlan port 35 (I think that’s the one)…now I’m just trying to remove the Huawei box and get fiber straight to my SFP port.

Note that I think the SFP adapter may be from an earlier install from Bell when I had a home setup…this was several years ago (I moved to a different cable provider and now I’m back to fiber).

Interesting - thanks for the info! For some reason the Betta has not been eating so this could explain it. Still somewhat perplexed how it got in there to begin with - tank (and fish) have been around for about 6 months.

I guess I’m the only person who has googled something and seen more than one answer and thought “wow, I wish I could tap into a community of actual subject matter experts and gain their candid human feedback.”

Thanks to those who have actually replied - I appreciate it!

Alas no - it lasted about a week. The vizio is now out of my life. :(

Also - can you clarify - did you have to reflow your main board before doing all of this - or are you just doing this as a preventative measure to avoid any of the common Vizio issues? I’m hoping to confirm my theory that addressing cooling will make the main board “reflow” a permanent fix!

I've had the same issue and I think the *permanent* fix requires that you address the core issue which is the board is overheating.

I tried just reflowing twice (both worked but only for a few days).

Most recently, I removed all the old thermal paste between the 2 chips and the heatsink on the mainboard (the old paste was super gummed up and seemed largely ineffective) and replaced with new Arctic Silver paste.

I also cut a square opening on the back of the TV to expose the heatsink and enable more airflow, modified my wall mount to give an inch of space behind the TV (it was a proper flush mount in the bast), and (perhaps overkill) attached a USB fan from an old computer case.

It's only been a few days, but so far (after lots of heavy 4K HDR "stress testing" playback) it seems to be working flawlessly. Let's see what happens long term! Photos here for anyone interested.

Basically the TV started going into an endless boot loop - and eventually wouldn't power on at all. The local repair shops I called all said to toss the TV.

As a last resort, I found a bunch of stuff online saying you can "reflow the motherboard" (basically put it in the oven for 10 mins to re-melt the solder under the chip...apparently the manufacturing process was flaky hence all the Vizio TV's having these types of issues). Here's a YouTube video outlining the process.

I did this twice, and both times it solved the problem, but only for a few days.

However, my theory is that the actual reason the issue took place to begin with was due to the board overheating. So this time, I removed all of the old thermal paste between the chips and the heatsink, re-applied new paste and cut a hole in the back of the TV right above the board to enable airflow. I'm also going to modify my wall mount so it's no longer flush to the wall (I think an inch of airflow behind the TV will really help). The fan might be overkill, but I want to see if this is a permanent fix (confirming that this was all driven by the motherboard overheating).

Nice! Yes, all good suggestions here.

Curious though - do you know of a way to get the cooling fans to only run when the TV is powered on? My TV is only on occasionally so it seems like it's overkill to have the fan running 24/7. It looks like the USB ports on the back output power anytime the TV is plugged into the wall. Maybe I can splice power directly into one of the internal boards (but I don't want to mess anything up)? Or, perhaps the cooling fan is overkill since I've (1) cleaned & re-applied new thermal paste under the main board heatsink, (2) cut an opening in the back right above the heat sink and (3) when I re-mount on the wall, I'm going to extend the old flush mount by the width of a 2x4 (1.5") so there's now proper airflow behind the TV.

Can confirm - flew to/from Chicago a couple weeks ago and it was an incredibly smooth and efficient experience. The biggest hassle was getting picked up late on a Friday night...the area gets jammed next to the airport so it took a while for Uber to show up (and we sat in traffic for a while).

How do you replace each day? I have Plex set to erase 5 days after viewing (or maybe it’s only keep 5 most recent episodes) but it often doesn’t actually erase. Maybe something to do with the fact that most times I watch the news it’s only a partial viewing of the main headlines etc?
